Recipe: Almond Poppy Seed Bread

Almond Poppy Seed Bread Ingredients

To make Almond Poppy Seed Bread

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F.
  2. Grease and lightly flour a bundt pan.
  3. Put all ingredients for the Almond Poppy Bread in an electric mixer in order listed.
  4. Make a hole (or pond) for the liquids.
  5. Run the mixer about 2 - 3 minutes.
  6. You want the batter for the Almond Poppy Seed Bread mixed completely, but no more than just mixed.
  7. Bake at 350° F. for 1 hour and 15 minutes depending on your oven.
  8. Check for doneness with a round wooden toothpick. Insert the toothpick into the top of the Almond Poppy Seed Bread and remove it. If the toothpick comes out clean, the Almond Poppy Seed Bread is done. If the Almond Poppy Seed Bread will springs back to the touch of your finger, you can guesstimate that the bread is done.
  9. Remove Almond Poppy Seed Bread from oven, and allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes. Then remove the bread from the pan and place on a wire rack and add glaze (recipe below).


Glaze for Almond Poppy Seed Bread

  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp butter flavoring
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract
  1. Put all ingredients in a small sauce pan.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium heat stirring all the while; turn heat down and simmer 5 minutes. Watch carefully so glaze doesn't burn.
  3. Remove glaze from heat and add 1/2 teaspoon of each of the 3 flavorings: vanilla, almond and butter.
  4. Using a pastry brush, brush the hot glaze on the still very warm Almond Poppy Seed Bread. Don’t worry about the drips. One of the joys of this recipe is that you can make it in 15 minutes. After it’s baked, the glazing may take 10 minutes.
