Recipe: Apple Dumplings

Ingredients in Apple Dumplings

• Pie dough for a 2-crust pie
• 6 to 8 medium apples, peeled and cored
• 1/2 cup sugar
• 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
• 2 tbsp butter

Sauce

• 1/2 cup sugar
• 1/2 cup light corn syrup
• 2 tbsp butter
• 1 cup water
• 1 to 2 tbsp red hot candies
• 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

To make Apple Dumplings

1. Prepare pie dough and roll out a 7” diameter piece of dough for each dumpling.
2. Place 1/2 apple (may be cut in cubes) in the center of each piece of dough.
3. Generously sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon and dot with butter.
4. Wrap dough around apple securely and place in a large 9" x 13” baking pan.
5. Pour hot sauce over dumplings and bake at 500° F for 7 minutes, then reduce oven temperature to 350° F and bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Makes approximately 8 apple dumplings.

To make sauce:

1. Combine and boil 3 minutes; then pour around apples.
