Recipe: Caramel Bars
Caramel Bars Ingredients
- 3/4 cup butter or margarine
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups flour (sifted)
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Topping
- 33 caramels
- 1/4 cup cream or half and half
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- Preheat oven to 325° F.
- Mix all ingredients except nuts at lowest speed on electric mixer until well blended.
- Stir in pecans, if desired.
- Put into a 9 x 13 inch pan and bake at 325° F. for 20-25 minutes or until brown.
- In a double boiler, melt caramels and add cream.
- After melted, add butter and powdered sugar, mixing well.
- Spread over cooled crust.
