Recipe: Caramel Bars



 

Recipes using Young Pecan Halves

 

Caramel Bars Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups flour (sifted)
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Topping

  • 33 caramels
  • 1/4 cup cream or half and half
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  1. Preheat oven to 325° F.
  2. Mix all ingredients except nuts at lowest speed on electric mixer until well blended.
  3. Stir in pecans, if desired.
  4. Put into a 9 x 13 inch pan and bake at 325° F. for 20-25 minutes or until brown.
  5. In a double boiler, melt caramels and add cream.
  6. After melted, add butter and powdered sugar, mixing well.
  7. Spread over cooled crust.
