Recipe: Chili Con Carne

Recipes using McCormick Oregano Leaves

• 1 1/2 lbs. ground chuck
• 1 1/2 cups onion, sliced
• 1 tbsp canola oil
• 1 28 oz can whole tomatoes
• 1 6 oz can tomato paste
• 1 cup water
• 1 beef bouillon cube
• 1 16 oz can red kidney beans
• 1 tbsp diced green pepper
• 2 cloves garlic, minced
• 2 tsp salt
• 2 tsp oregano
• 2 tsp chili powder or ground cumin
• 1 tbsp Hershey's Cocoa
• 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper or to taste
• 1 bay leaf
• 1/2 cup dark rum, optional

1. Heat oil in Dutch Oven or large non-stick sauce pan. Add onions, and cook 2-3 minutes, then add ground chuck. Cook until meat is brown. Drain off any fat.
2. Stir in remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours. Stir occasionally. Add water if needed.
3. Remove bay leaf and serve over cooked spaghetti pasta. Excellent with hot corn bread, and topped with cheddar cheese.
