Recipe: Chocolate Cake



 

Recipes using Tones Baking Powder

 

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  1. Preheat oven to 350° F. Butter and flour three 8x1 1/2" round cake pans. Line bottoms with waxed paper.
  2. Sift together flour, salt, soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In medium saucepan bring to boil over high heat 2 cups sugar and 2 cups water. Stir until sugar dissolves.
  4. Add chocolate and butter. Let cool, stirring occasionally. Stir in vanilla.
  5. Beat eggs into chocolate mixture until combined.
  6. Add dry ingredients all at once and beat until smooth.
  7. Divide batter evenly between pans and bake about 25 minutes.
  8. Let stand 10 minutes and invert onto racks to cool completely.
  9. Frost cake with Chocolate Frosting (below).

Chocolate Frosting Recipe

  • 1 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 6 ounce unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 stick plus 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • Pinch of salt
  1. In saucepan bring cream and sugar to boil; reduce heat and simmer for 6 minutes at simmer.
  2. Pour into medium bowl over chocolate, butter, vanilla and salt.
  3. Stir occasionally until melted.
  4. Set in large bowl of ice water. Using hand held mixer beat on medium scraping sides occasionally with rubber spatula until thick and glossy, about 5 minutes. Use at once.
