Recipe: Double Whole Wheat Bread



 

Recipes using Fleischmann's Yeast

 

Double Whole Wheat Bread Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 tsp dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 tbsp salt
  • 5 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup wheat germ
  • 3 cups all purpose flour

To make Double Whole Wheat Bread

  1. Dissolve yeast in water. Let stand abount 10 - 15 minutes until bubbly.
  2. Combine milk, honey, margarine and salt in a saucepan.
  3. Heat until butter melts. Cool to lukewarm. Stir in yeast mixture.
  4. Stir in wheat flour and wheat germ.
  5. Knead adding additional flour as needed. Knead 5 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place dough into a greased bowl and cover.
  7. Let rise until doubled in size. Punch down.
  8. Turn out on counter, cover with bowl 5 minutes.
  9. Make into 3 loaves rolling each thin with the rolling pin, then rolling up tightly.
  10. Place in greased 9x5 pans.
  11. Let rise until doubled in bulk.
  12. Bake at 350° F. for 35 minutes.
  13. Brush with butter.
