Recipe: English Muffins



 

Recipes using Fleischmann's Yeast

 

English Muffins Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups scalded milk
  • 1 tbsp butter, softened
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 3 cups flour
  • Cornmeal

To make English Muffins

  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water, let stand 10-15 minutes.
  2. Scald milk, add butter and salt.
  3. Let cool until lukewarm (85° F.).
  4. Combine yeast mixture, milk mixture and 2 cups flour in large bowl.
  5. Mix with electric mixer for 3 minutes on high speed. Scrape bowl.
  6. Stir in 1 cup flour with wooden spoon. cover with damp towel, let rise until double in size.
  7. Stir down and place on floured board.
  8. Work in a little flour with hands and then pat or roll out to 1/2" thick.
  9. Cut out with 2" cookie cutter.
  10. Place English Muffin dough on greased cookie sheet that has been sprinkled with cornmeal.
  11. Sprinkle top each English Muffin with a little cornmeal.
  12. Cover with damp towel, and let rise 30 minutes.
  13. Preheat electric frypan to 350° F.
  14. Cook English Muffins for 15 minutes then turn and cook 15 minutes. Do not cover the electric frypan.
  15. Let the English Muffins cool. Split with fork, do not cut with knife.
