A & W CONEY ISLAND SAUCE
In large saucepan, brown:
5 lbs. ground beef - with
2 small onions, finely chopped
Add to saucepan:
64 oz. tomato paste
64 oz. tomato puree
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/3 cup cider vinegar
2 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon pepper
1 tablespoon celery seed
3 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon salt - combine.
Simmer for 3 ½ hours, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
This freezes well.
For an authentic taste use Kogel franks and rehydrate dry minced onions in boiling water.
Greek Sauce for Hot Dogs
1 lb. ground beef
2 chopped onions
½ t. oregano
½ t. chili powder
½ t. sweet basil
½ t. cayenne pepper
½ t. garlic salt
½ t. cumin
1 small can tomato sauce
1 c. water
Place all ingredients in crock pot. Cook ½ day on LOW and half day on HIGH. Good on hotdogs, hamburgers or fries.
Doggie Sauce
3 lbs. hamburger
2 T. paprika
2 1/2 T. chili powder
1 1/2 T. crushed red pepper
1 T. salt
1 T. celery seed
1/2 T. garlic powder
1 T. black pepper
1 pt. water
Brown all ingredients (except water) until pink is gone. Add water and cover until water boils, then simmer until most of water is gone. Note: This is a hot sauce so cut the 1 1/2 tablespoon crushed pepper and 1 tablespoon black pepper in half, if desired. Note: What sauce is leftover freeze in ice trays. Pop out and put in baggie.
Simple Sauce
1 lb. hamburger
1 1/2 c. water
1 can tomato paste
1 onion, cut fine
3/4 t. chile powder
1 t. salt
Cook hamburger, drain. Mix hamburger with all ingredients and simmer for 45 minutes. Hamburger should be very fine. Place over wiener in bun. Add raw onions and mustard on top of the sauce.
