Janie, with the possible exception of a dull knife, there is nothing in the kitchen as dangerous as a mandoline---particularly when people see celebrity chefs using them without the saftey guards.

I'm with you. I would not share mine with anybody who I cared about. Not unless I was prepared to have fingertips mixed in with the cole slaw.

That said, there are, of course, some tasks that nothing performs like a mandoline; essentially anything that requires (or at least benefits from) equal sized slices. I love mine for those tasks. But I won't let Friend Wife touch it, either.
