The Joy of Cooking was my Pre-google primer!!!!!!!!!! I took it with me to Egypt 14 years ago and it came in so handy----it had a wonderful marinade recipe for meats (soy sauce, wine, grated ginger, etc) that became one of the most passed around recipes around--our Egyptian chef became famous for it---I'm sure that it's still in there) and the best recipe for quick oatmeal-raisin cookies that added a teaspoon of orange zest. Everybody loved them. Also the info was invaluable for ingredients, conversions, cooking instructions, etc. The JofC was and still is a valuable friend.

Also the Cotton Country Collection and The Pirate's Pantry are stained, battered friends as well.
