Waffle Iron

Does anyone use a waffle iron?

I sort of scared myself out of using mine a few years back. I waited for it to heat up and then sprayed oil on it and ... let me tell you !! That was the biggest flame I've ever seen IN a house in my life. Hubby came running in the kitchen. Said it looked like a bomb went off from the flash. I guess what happened was the cooking spray hit the coil on the back... and POOF.

But anyways... do you use a waffle iron? And do you use premade mix or do you make your own??

Yes I use a waffle iron - make my own mix and I brush with oil not to have what happened to you! - I use my little brush and I feel so much safer!

I don't have a waffle iron but I have been wanting to get one.

I'd like a nice waffle iron where the griddles are removable and are non-stick. That's something that you need so consider when buying a waffle makrer: Can you take out the waffle griddles? It makes them a lot easier to clean if they're removable.

I would imagine that some of the newer ones would be that way. Mine's definitely not. Sucker's as old as the hills.

thats stupid =p non grease oils works better, or even butter for that matter.
Which shapes are best for waffles, considering their speed in which they are cooked in.

I used the waffle irons in the cafeteria all the time in college but don't own my own. I did love making fluffy belgian waffles though!

LOL @ Manga's "that's stupid" Well yeah !!!!!!! DUH!!!!! *laughing* It was WAY PAST stupid!!!!!

But....what the heck is a non-grease oil. I thought all oils were grease...and for that matter....... butter is flamable too. LOL

How exactly do you grease the top iron? Obviously you cant just spray it on (DUH ME) and you cant very well take butter to it... or can you??? Mine gets to hot to flip over and butter, plus the butter would probably melt down & drip on the coils. POOF another fire in the making. *laughs*

I'd say it's time for me to buy a new waffle iron!! With no coils to blow my butt away! *laughing at her ignorance*

And what's the diff between waffles & belgian waffles??

Belgian waffles are fatter!! (the wells are deeper) Great for desserts! Top with strawberries and whipped cream - mmmmmmmmmmmm

Or make chocolate chip ones - top with chocolate syrup and whipped cream - garnish with chocolate curls - mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

non stick sprays >.> dunno what they are called anyway, you spray it before you place anything directly on the tray

Yep - that's exactly what I did. Non stick spray...directly on the tray.... and the coils.... and POOF. *laughs*

Now, for the first waffle... I understand not getting the flames, because I sprayed it before it was hot. But you can't very well remove waffle #1, let it cool down, spray it and start the process over for #2.

LOL about the flames! Who knew waffled making could be so hard!

Hmmm... would this be considered waffle flambay? However you spell that....

Mickey Mouse Waffles

My oldest daughter bought me a mickey mouse non stick waffle maker from the disney store and her little sister loves it. No spray is needed on this one and mickey's face turns out fluffey and cute:) I separate my eggs and whip the whites to make a really fluffey batter. Clean up is as easy as can be and no grease is necessary.

makes me want some waffles!

I inherited my grandma's old waffle iron. The thing is as old as dirt, but it's seasoned so well that I don't need to spray it with anything before pouring in the batter.

I loves waffle umm I had a great one simple square and it was ok but
It broke :( So my in-law got me a new one for x-mas was not the square but this wavey like circle .. let just say I can not press good thin waffle cones for Ice cream but not one good fluffy waffle ... So I am on the hunt for the waffle maker that is more industrial like the resturant has. That you can "flip' and give that thick fluffy waffles that the strawberries get lost in.... UHMMMMM

zella - buy a Belgium Waffle maker - nice and thick and sooooo good! for waffle cones I use my pizzelle maker - it's perfect

I dont use waffle irons much because i dont really like waffles. My girlfriend does. We got one, its non stick.

I got one, but I'v only used it once. Seems like it was a mess to clean afterwards! Batter everywhere!!

I mean, I like it, but I just hate to clean it.

I think I have a non-stick waffle maker, I haven't used it so long. I still have the waffle maker it's in shape of a Heart a friend of mine had one, I liked it so my:) Mom bought me one for a gift. I made Belgian Waffles on it. I have a brush for backing and I would use a little bit of butter & brush it on waffle maker. Never had a problem. Sorry to hear yours.
Mama can you share your recipe Chocolate waffles? That sounds really good, I have made pancakes with chocolate chips but not waffles. Cookie :)
