Barbecue Cooking Tools

Can anyone recommend a company that makes a good set of barbecue cooking tools that includes a basting brush? I am especially looking for a basting brush that will not melt from the heat of the charcoal briquets. A good basting brush is essential for cooking roasts and chicking on the grill.

A few years ago we were given a set made by Coleman. It came in a big metal box. Has a basting brush, tongs, two pronged for and flat turner. It has held up fairly well and we still use it four years later.

I will have to check with our local camping supply store to see if they carry the Coleman set you described. The set must be good if you are still using the tools four years later.

I just like the simple tongs, and spatula. Don't know what brand we have but they work well. If you have a lower fat steak, the tongs can flip the steaks quite well.

Yeah, like the poster above, I don't know what brand mine are, but I bought them at Lowes. They carry a wide assortment of utensils. And the ones I got were very heavy duty with thick wood handles.

The set didn't include a basting brush though...that is something I still need.

I recently discovered that I have a set of basting brushes that were given to me for Christmas that work really well for basting grilled food. They are made of some kind of rubber like thick bristles that don't melt when used for basting grilled food. They also clean up better than the typical nylon bristle brushes. I remember the person saying that they ordered them from QVC.

I think you are referring to silacone basting brushes. Those are on my list of next thing to buy. I hear they are wonderful.

Just a large spatula and set of tongs that were given to me long ago. They just keep on keeping on. I hate to say it in polite company but my basting brush is an 1 1/2" job from Walmart plus a 3" nylon bristle paint brush.
