Bourbon Hot Dogs

G

Guest
3 pounds hot dogs, sliced diagonally into 1 inch slices
1 cup chili sauce
1 cup bourbon
1 cup brown sugar

Put hot dogs in a casserole dish. Mix together the rest of ingredients and pour over hot dogs. Bake covered in a 300° F oven for one hour. Hot dogs are done in the slices are glazed over and the sauce is thick.

While it may sound surprising, this is a delicious way to eat hot dogs.

may I add this:

Beer Dogs

6 deli-style beef hot dogs
1 can (12 ounce size) beer
6 hot dog buns, split

In a large saucepan, bring the beer to a boil over high heat.

Prick each hot dog several times with a fork; add to the boiling beer and boil for 5 to 6 minutes, until heated through. Serve in the buns and top with your favorite hot dog toppings.

or for brats:

1 package (19.76 oz. size) fresh bratwurst
2 large onions, sliced thinly
3 bottles (12 oz. size) beer (whatever is handy)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon caraway seeds
5 buns or rolls
Mustard to taste

Place the brats, onions, caraway seeds and beer in a pan and heat to boiling. Cover, turn down heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove the brats to a covered plate.

Strain the onions into a collander. Turn drained onions into a pan with a little olive oil and slowly cook until well carmelized (about 20 minutes).

Grill brats on low to medium heat for 10 minutes, turning the brats so they are browned on all sides. Serve on your favorite bun. Spread a little mustard and smother brat with the cooked onions.

or:

1 can of your favorite beer
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
5 brats

Prepare grill for direct grilling and preheat to medium.

Place beer, onion and brats in medium pot and bring to gentle boil over medium heat. Let brats simmer gently until partially cooked, 6 to 8 minutes. Do not let brats boil, or they will burst. Drain brats well.

Place brats on grill parallel to grates (to hold brats in place) and grill 5 to 7 minutes per side. Internal temperature of brats should be about 170 degrees when serving.

I don't like hot dogs, but you can't go wrong with bourbon lol

They're like onions for me. If I put my mind to it, I can eat them..but I don't like them lol

Great sounding recipe GG ! I have got to give it a try, my next question to you is..............What would the sauce go over good, besides the hotdogs?

Cathy

Thank you Mama I will.

I really meant what kind of a side would the sauce go over for instance: rice, beans, etc. I was thinking that it probably makes quite a bit of sauce and it would be good spooned over a side not just the meat.

Cathy

P.S. my squash are just about to bloom out and I just can not wait to have those fried squash blossoms:p. And you would never guess what I saw this morning (not in my yard) a baby chipmunk...so adorible:) Of-course I was walking my dag and he took after it like a Banshee Indian gone mad!

awwww - baby chipmunks are so cute! as far as sides - try it on anything you want! the sauce that is - not the baby chipmunk! LOL
