Cornstarch putty

The following are a couple of recipes given to me yesterday by my 6-year-old nephew, John, to add to my files. These are exactly in John's own words, just as he wrote them. I giggle every time I read them and thought they were just too great not to share:

Cornstarch Putty:

Ingredients:
3 Tbls. cornstarch
2 Tbls. cold water

Directions:
Mix cornstarch and cold water together. This makes a very strange mixture for squishing and feeling.

Finger Jello

Ingredients:
3 envelopes unflavored gelatin
1/2 C water
1 1/2 C fruit juice saved from canned fruit.

In small pan, sprinkle gelatin over water. Heat on low until dissolved. Stir in fruit juice. Pour into a small, flat pan. Regrigerate. When it's hard, cut into pieces. Pick up and eat. Don't forget to eat the canned fruit or your mom will be mad.

Bacon And Watermelon Rind Appetizers:

Ingredients:
1 pound bacon
Sweet, pickled watermelon rind

Directions:
Cut the bacon in half. Cook bacon about half done so it's still limp. Wrap each piece of bacon around a piece of rind and stick with a tooth pick. Put under broiler until it's done, turning once. Serve. Warn people that they're hot so they don't get their fingers burned! :):):)

That is too precious. I'm still waiting for the "mud-pie" recipe.

JP - John didn't offer me a mud pie recipe but I do remember when my sister and I were his age I made a batch once that included some vile little red berries (I think they may have been poisonous like juniper or something?) and tried to make my sister eat one. She cleaved my skull with a hoe and I still have the knot on the top of my head to this day to show for it. Never, ever try to make an older sibling eat something they don't want!!
