Teriyaki Chicken Drumsticks (Teriyaki)

SERVES 4 -6
8-12 chicken drumsticks
1 cup soy sauce
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 cup water
3 tablespoons olive oil or canola oil
1 teaspoon ginger (optional)
Garlic and red pepper flakes to taste

Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium high heat.
Brown chicken pieces in hot oil.
While chicken is browning, mix together the soy sauce, sugar, water, and ginger.
Add the sauce to the chicken.
Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to medium low and let simmer, uncovered, for about 20 to 30 minutes or until chicken is done and sauce has thickened.
Turn chicken pieces occasionally during cooking process.
Serve over cooked rice.(We use short grain "sticky rice" prepared in a rice cooker.).
Serve excess sauce along side, people always seem to want more of it.
To reduce the calories, skinless chicken may be used.

Made these day before yesterday and they are really good.
Jon gave them a 10++. He really loved them.

Is there something else that can be used instead of red peppers, because the rest of the recipes sounds right up my street:)?

I hate peppers, they taste of elastoplast to me, not that I go around eating plasters, but they have that taste, yuk.:(

Keziah the best thing to replace the pepper flakes would be sesame seeds! I make something very much like this and use sesame seeds and I put mine into the oven, not in a pot on the stove. It is very tasty!!! Try the sesame seeds you will not be disappointed:)

Thanks Cook Chatty Cathy.

I'll use that exchange. I can't wait to have people down because I have loads of new tastes for them to try from this site.
