Buying American

Hey - don't be upset - and no one should be offended. The reason we don't have jobs here anymore is because everything is being outsourced.
I buy American as much as I can. And I don't like all these countries taking over so much. Bimbo Bakeries has bought out Thomas's English Muffins, Sun Main Raisins, Arnold, and a host of other companies - so now I don't buy those items anymore. I want my money to go for American foods, items and jobs.

I saw an orowheat truck the other day that had bimbo bakery
on it's side and was shocked.

I usually buy bread from local bakers and supermarkets that
make it in-house.

Thanks for the link.

I offered a lengthy response to your post at the China thread- but that doesn't mean that I was disputing your views, or that I disagree w/ the whole "Buying America" ideal... in fact, I do agree with it. I was simply playing devil's advocate.

I just feel it goes much deeper than buying a rolling-pin from Vermont, though (especially when that American rolling-pin comes shipped in a corrugated box that came from China, w/ an address-label attached that was made in Mexico, delivered by a mail-truck that came off an assembly-line in Japan, by a smiling delivery-guy wearing a cotton/poly-blend uniform made in Thailand!) .

Forgive the crudeness- but it's almost like farting in the wind.

I do believe in the power of grassroots movements... but we must be realistic too- afterall an awful lot of local God-fearing, hard-working men were left jobless when the horse and buggy business went out of style. And there came a time when those horse and buggy makers had to stop belly-aching and learn new job-skills to re-invent themselves.

It's sad in many ways- I agree- but the answer is not to remain stagnant and to stomp one's foot until their position becomes nothing but a nostalgic longing for what used-to-be. If one is not very, very careful they become left-behind and irrelevant.

You know - this can really open a can of worms - you talk about buying American - and we all know that our country needs to start standing on its own two feet again and making/manufacturing goods to keep our economy going.

And while we are at it - stop all the "English as a second language" crap and make ALL immigrants LEARN TO READ, WRITE AND SPEAK OUR LANGUAGE just like our ancestors had to or they could not become citizens. they also fought in the armed forces, worked long hours and paid taxes - without looking for a handout from the government.

I am not against anyone coming to American to make a better life for themselves. Just remember - display OUR flag, learn our ways, learn our language - and there is nothing wrong with keeping your country traditions alive in your own homes and teach your children about your heritage - I learned all about mine without turning my back on the English language, etc.

And just think - they can then label all our foods and goods in English so that we can read them easily instead of having to read everything in Spanish as well.

Oh I can go on and on - I'm keeping this short -

That subject is so vast it is really hard to wrap my mind around it.
Besides I can't find my soap box this morning. CF:D

Good going CF! Hey - jump on mine - it's tough, strong, well-used and always ready! LOL
(and at times it loves a good debate)
