Is Thanksgiving .. Do you have your turkey or ham yet? Do you have big plans for the holiday?

get this - Mama (I) went turkey hunting for the first time in my life!

and I bagged my first turkey with my first shot!

scared the crap out of everyone in the frozen food department.....................

Thats where I always hunt my turkeys. You gettum already cleaned and ready. Deer are another matter. I have to sit hours in a little box to put some of that in the freezer.

I saw someone yesterday with a six point deer strapped to their truck.

I bought two turkeys. One for my bro and one for my husband and I to have with his Dad. Jon and I will have duck on Thanksgiving. I have been watching the salespapers and lucked into some good sales on chocolate chips, peanut butter and other goodies for candy making.

We have been talking about smoking a whole hog. Well a pig , dressed weight about 30 pounds. Y'all know we are covered up with wild hogs here in the South. I myself would rather have chicken or pork ribs. CF:)

One of my neighbors (God rest his soul) used to constantly dig up his yard and put whole pigs and hogs on a spit and cook them all day long! But then again he also cooked squirrel and rabbit and was always drying all type of "critters" and smoking tons of them. He would make sausage and there was no way I would eat it - you never knew what it was made from.......

One of his last "cookouts" was his billy goat that he had as a pet...........

Mama, that could of been me. I grew up eating anything that was not faster or smarter than we were. I still love squirrel and rabbit, possums and coons not so much. Goat is good food, I do however have trouble killing most things. We were also taught you kill it you gonna eat it. CF:)

I'm not into killing anything - although a couple years ago I did get my first deer. No I did not go deer hunting - it was a suicidal buck (12 pointer yet) that T-boned my car doing well over $3000 damage! His antlers were stuck to the front passenger wheel well and his hoof went through the back wheel well while his butt destroyed the passenger front door and half the back door.

No I did not cut off the head to mount it. He hit me - I didn't hit him.

dumb deer ------

I chatted up a guy they had doing some work in this apartment years ago. He was telling us about a family he lived beside of once who kept a dog as a pet the entire year and then he disappeared on the day of their big BBQ. He said they always had a new dog after that til next time. He said he never took them up on their invitations to the BBQ.

I had a pet bunny for 5 years so I could never cook rabbit. If I get a cookbook with a rabbit recipe in it I fold that page over because I dont like to look at it. I have cooked deer that people have given to us but I do not like the taste. Jon likes it. My husband says squirrel was one of his fav things to eat when he was younger. I have never had squirrel.

You would not believe the things people eat here in N Georgia.

that's when I either go vegetarian - or starve to death.............

(singing...........Timothy, Timothy, where on earth did you goooooo.......)

sorry but the Andes plane crash just popped into my head............

I'm going back to play in the kitchen.......

Mama I saw a terrible thing today. Came home this evening and turned on the FN to see Pat Neely spanking his wife's big ol tush with a spatula. I will have nightmares for weeks. She had her big ol rump stuck out there and her eyes all closed like the was in bliss.

OMG - I'm telling you - those 2 should not be on TV! Yes, I'll say they do make good food - but their shenanigans are a total turn off - and to be honest - I don't like the FN anymore at all - I don't like most of the new cooks - and al they do is try to copy one another.

Take me back to the days of Meet the Millers - a local cooking show on every afternoon back in the 50's - now that was a cooking show!

mama I nearly spit a whole mouth-full of lemonade all over my keyboard when I read of your hunting expedition- at the local Kroger's- HA! :)

I too was raised eating whatever varmits my Dad and brother come back from the woods with. Deer, rabbit, squirrel, quail, partridge, pheasant. In Alaska I ate moose, bear, caribou, musk ox, dahl sheep... Nuthin' finer than moose chili or moose spaghetti sauce!

Mama- I too once had a suicidal critter find me in a company mini-van I was driving! Hit a moose dead-on. Talk about a MESS! Driving home the passenger's side of the windsheild was filled w/ a million tiny cracks and we couldn't see out of that side of it because every crack was full of moose hair!

Janie, this year I work both T-Giving Day and the day after... my family and I celebrated the holiday w/ a ribeye steak cookout at Dad's last weekend. Although we had a pumpkin pie, we decided not to have turkey or ham since my Dad as well as my sister and her family are going to many various dinners where those things will be served and we didn't want to ruin their appetites for them... so we just opted for beef. It was purty tasty! On a quick hour lunch-break on Thanksgiving Day I will pre-order 2 turkey-dinners w/ all the trimmings and a whole pumpkin pie to deliver to Mom- 2 meals so she'll have plenty of leftovers to enjoy...

You always do SO much cooking for your family and extended family- especially at holiday time. They are so lucky to have you. I'm sure they treasure your tasty morsels, dear! :)

The Neely's, I agree that they are cooking some good food. But the rest is nothing but crap. I emailed FN told them the Neely's needed to get a room before each show, and how I felt about them. Never heard a word back. Think I will send them another one this morning. CF:) I like putting in my $.25 worth.

I really looked forward to this show when first announced. A guy that ran a BBQ place would interest me. Turned out to be too much "kissy face" and not enough BBQ. When it wasn't kissy face they were cooking "chick food" sorry ladies. I lost interest pretty fast.

There are actual entire websites dedicated to how much people hate that Gina Neely. I cannot stand her. If Pat did the show alone it may be ok or maybe if he did it with his brothers. Seeing her big old rump stuck out with her hands resting on her knees and him smacking her rump is an image that will haunt me. Pat is one who is whipped in that relationship.
