A Pizza Christmas

Looks like we are having pizzas, sandwiches and dessert for Christmas at my father in laws this year. :D I will actually be able to enjoy Christmas this year and not spend the week before and day of cooking. This will be the first time in 12 years. I am one happy girl!

My father in law suggested it and my hubby kinda ran with it. He called his brother last night and he was fine with it. He talked to his Dad today and it is what they decided to do. I will make a couple of desserts and thats it.
Without being overwhelmed with that dinner I will be able to make the things I choose to make more special. Pizza is the one thing they all like. When they have a huge dinner it is always this one doesnt like this or that.

My bunch would be more than happy with Pizza and dessert for Christmas. I'm so glad you will be able to enjoy Christmas more with your family without the hassle of spending all your time in the kitchen.

It is going to be so much easier! We do Sunday supper every Sunday with his Dad so the Sunday before that I can make extra special with a holiday spin if I want. Holiday cooking for three is way easier than 16 or more. I already feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. My father in law went to his other sons for Thanksgiving so the Sunday before that I made a smaller Thanksgiving dinner for the three of us. It worked out wonderfully.

Now he says he doesnt know and that he may want to go ahead and do a big dinner.

Janie- I would take the bull by the horns and as the cook- make the plans YOU wish to. Your kindness, time, and money have been taken for granted in the past... If you are inclined to- I say keep the menu simple- cook the food- invite the guests- and whomever doesn't like it- tough. Flim-flamming about it- changing one's mind and flip-flopping... let them do that when THEY are buying the groceries and doing the cooking. You do too much for too many- you deserve a break, sweety!

Time for "potluck" dinner - EVERYONE brings something and you will bring a dessert! You put your foot down and tell them that you will bring a dessert this year and that it is their turn to cook.

You know I just cannot read him on this subject. I honestly cannot tell if it is nostalgia or obligation guiding his decision. When we were at his place the other day and he said that we may just go ahead and cook a big dinner I asked him if he felt obligated to furnish the big dinner so there would be leftovers for the others to take home. He said that has nothing to do with it but I bet it does. He feels obligated for some reason. He is going back and forth between the big dinner and pizzas.
My hubby's bro never makes a decision til the last minute and I see where he gets the habit at. He gets it from their Dad. I like to know what I am doing so I can plan.
He prepared one holiday meal after their divorce before I came into the pic and took over. He hasnt done it in so long he has no idea of the shopping, cost and cook time involved.
Unless I changed my mind I am taking JP's advice. If he wants to do one then he can.

By they way I went to the store yesterday to get a pound of butter and was I ever stunned with the price. $3.89 a pound! It had always been around $2.69 at the hightest. Is their a butter shortage I don't know about? Grocery prices are sky rocketing.

No dear - it's the time of the year when more baking is done - they getcha there. Our sale prices here are 2.69 to 2.99 - normally well over 3.59+.

They screwed around with the margarine formula throughout the years so you can't bake with it - they got us good. That is why I stock up when it's on sale and freeze it.

Yeah I know there is no shortage. Last year most of the stores had it for 2/$3 this time of the year.

yeah - and according to Obama - the country is recovering from this recession/depression - many will NOT be baking because of the prices this year

Yes Im not sure where he shops but nothing is better where we live. Getting way worse instead.
