FN - Worst Cooks

Anyone watched the new show on FN where they take what they call the worst cooks in America and try to teach them to cook? Last week was the first episode. That show is so funny. I don't think even when I first started cooking I was that bad lol.

I usually watch Giada's show Giada at Home but since the second season of that show started I do not care for the recipes at all. They just seem bland to me. Ina comes on after Giada. Love Ina ...I got her Back to Basics cookbook and it is wonderful.

I saw a new FN show advertised called Mexican Made Easy. I look forward to that one. I would love to learn to cook Mexican food. I found the chef's cookbook on Amazon. I am considering ordering it.

Hope everyone has a nice and warm weekend. Jon and I are staying in til tomorrow. Then it is off to his Dad's for Sunday supper.

it's gotten to a state of "inane overload" in my opinion.

each "new show" gets more contrived and / or more absurd than the last.

Personally I think those "worst cooks" should get acting awards at best. It just doesn't strike me as at all real, just a gambit to attract viewers.

I'd prefer to see it done Italian style - a good old-fashioned Italian backhand everytime they do something wrong.

I don't watch shows like that because it turns my stomach.

Janie, I like you find it so hard to believe anyone could ever cook that bad, and like Dilbert I believe the show is contirved. I tried to watch it a few times but it totally bored me so I turned it off & read a book instead! I enjoy the lady Chef on that show with super blonde hair that is spiked, she is good. Too bad she got stuck doing a show like that!

I guess maybe it is hard for me to believe folks are that darned illiterate in their kitchen skills, I do not find that cute or funny. I actually find it darned disgusting and totally lazy and worthless. My father who was never the one in our home to cook, suddenly found himself single after 25 year and he is a good cook now. Anyone who has to survive and can not afford to eat out 24/7 must learn to cook and eat well enough to be healthy. My Dad is thrifty and will not buy frozen foods! He simply taught himself! And who does not know how to make toast, scramble or fry eggs and fry bacon??? Come on my 10 yr. old can handle all that and by herself!!!

I had the same thought about the contestants being actors. I wouldnt doubt the whole thing is fake.

My creative budgeting allows me certain pleasures (1-2 used cookbooks per pay-period and 99-cent thighs/legs every Tuesday at Popeye's!)) but denies me others (I don't have cable) so I don't get to see FN at all. From what I hear from some folks- that ain't all bad. I hear so often the programming just ain't what it used to be.

I do however LOVE PBS and our local channel switches-up all the time the cooking shows we see, and they just recently switched to a bushel of new ones totally unfamiliar to me, but a week or two into the new mix, I'm gettin' into what I'm seeing so far... will let you know more as I spend more time with the shows!

I love when I catch cooking shows on PBS.
Our local cable company is constantly raising their price for basic cable. Several years ago our landlord made a deal with them that if he took out basic cable for all 6 apartments in their name they could never raise what the price was at that time. So our cable is included into the rent. When they started that the cable was $39 which is what we still pay. It has since gone up to $64 for basic cable for others. I know because I pay Jon's Dads cable bill for him when it comes due. I would not pay $64 for it.

Included in my rent is also what is called "basic cable", janie. But all I get is the regular network stations, plus "My 59" and Fox plus CNN Headline News and 2 whacko shopping channels. No movie channels, or other specialty channels at all. Is that what your basic cable gets you?

I've not seen this particular new "bad cooks" show... but y'know what? Even most of the contestants on that Gordon Ramsey show don't seem real to me. Having worked in restaurant kitchens for 25 years, every now and then, 1-2 of them seemed to show some sign of experience, but for folks supposedly competing to be EXECUTIVE CHEFS at luxury hotels at the end of a 10-week competition, none of them ever showed enough exxperience and know-how to qualify them for any sort of low-level lead-worker, or supervisory position- much less a mid-level sous chef position- and definitely not a high-level managing Exec. Chef position leading a huge team in a high volume, quality kitchen. Totally a farse, as far as I'm concerned. It takes YEARS to go from salad-boy to Exec. Chef. And I don't care HOW GOOD Gordon Ramsey thinks he is- no one can take a low-level pantry-boy (no matter how much promise she shows) and turn them into a chef of a hotel in ten weeks. IMPOSSIBLE. It like giving a paper-boy a slate and an apple and calling them a teacher. Or giving a farm-hand a thermometer and a band-aid and calling them a doctor. Ain't gonna happen. Might be good for ratings- and make make delicious TV Drama... but it ain't realistic at all.
