OMG! is he ok??? was it an auto accident or did he actually run into a concrete wall?

Car accident. On his way to work about 5:45am on March 22. About a mile from our house on either side of the highway are concrete "walls" which used to hold up an old railroad crossing. He swirved to miss a deer, got his right 2 tires off the highway (no paved shoulder, only about a 3-4" drop to gravel) and it tossed him into one of the walls, which threw him across the highway and into the other one.

He was able to call 911 and then me. I got to the scene only moments after EMT/Rescue crews. His right foot was pinned in the far left corner (like where an emergency brake would be). It looks like he hit the brakes and hit foot slid off and that's how it got pinned.

Once they cut the door off and got him out, his right ankle was at a 90 degree angle to where it should've been. He went to the ER, they took xrays and immediately called to get approval from another hospital/doctor for transport. He was transported to a bigger hospital and went into emergency surgery fairly quickly. On the inside knobby bone of his ankle, they put 2 pins to hold the bone in place. On the outside knobby bone, they had to put a plate to just kinda hold all of the pieces in the general area (it was shattered).

We spend a night in the hospital and then he spent a week in a splint (because they couldn't cast it due to swelling issues). After a week he got a hard cast. That will come off this Thursday and replaced with a boot of some sort.

This is what's left of the car. Looking at it just makes me so thankful that he had nothing more than a really bad broken & dislocated ankle.

oh, and the OTHER injury....

Saturday morning he was hopping through our son's room without his crutches and his toe caught on the rug. His big toe on the GOOD foot folded under and caught his whole weight before he fell. It knotted up almost immediately and by midday had turned purple-black. We weren't sure he hadn't broken it. He couldn't hardly walk because it hurt to move the toe...so it made getting around VERY hard. *sigh* men....

OMG! He is lucky that he is ok! Sure he has a bad ankle now - but it could have been so much worse! To take a look at the car without knowing the story you would think he was killed! I am thankful he is much better than what the car looks like! And as far as the car goes - those can be replaced! Sometimes it is hard to do - but I'd rather lose a car than a person. He may be in pain and he may be thinking the worse right now - but he really should give thanks that it was only the ankle. With therapy and all - he will be able to walk again. I don't know what he does for a living - he may have to switch careers - but he will be okay and that is the most important thing!

As far as the big toe on the other foot - LMAO! So sorry to say that. But he seems to be a hazard waiting to be had! I think that God is trying to tell him something!!! You know - like be thankful that he wasn't killed or hurt worse in the accident!!!!!

Men are such big babies - no offense to the gentlemen here - but you are. I've had the "pleasure" (for lack of the right word) of having been acquainted throughout my life with some of the biggest macho mean, tuffies, independent and not-need-anything-from-anyone types (even in my own family as well as friends) UNTIL they get hurt or sick - then OMG - we all suffer!!!! They go from super macho to 3 months old with the worse case of diaper rash! They will keep you up all night, hopping all day and totally out of your mind! Can you imagine if they ever had to go through labor! Women around the world would be lining up for a dose of cyanide!

My prayers go out to hubbie for a quick and total healing and my prayers go out to you that you keep your sanity through all this and have the strength you will need!

Remember - THIS TOO SHALL PASS! (even if it doesn't seem that way right now)

Thanks guys...

He's doing really pretty good with the recovery. He had the accident on a Thursday, spend the entire next week at home and then went back to work the following Monday. He put in about 6 hours a day, every day last week and started back to full time yesterday. His "job" is in shipping and receiving, but they've been having him do some sales stuff for the last several months and have been grooming him for an inside sales position within the company. Since he's not able to do any of the shipping stuff right now and only paperwork/sales stuff, we're hoping it speeds up the shift to the new position (which also means a considerable raise).

Hopefully within the next few weeks we'll be able to look for him a new car. We just got the settlement amount from insurance yesterday, so they should be cutting us a check soon.

After I stopped feeling bad and blaming myself for him tripping over the weekend (I'm the one that sent him to Jack's room), I couldn't help but say those words that every woman wants to say so often...."I told you so!" I'd been telling him for days to quit hopping around without those crutches....I think he believes me this time!
