Halloween Buckets

I got the buckets of candy I give 2 of my nieces on Halloween assembled yesterday. The 7 year old said "Oh
my stars! Look at the Hershey bars" when she saw the picture. They are too funny.

I love Halloween, we are so far off the beaten path we get no trick or treaters. So I always have to eat the candy. (Poor me) The bucket idea is super. I may do that for the grand kids, at least the small ones.
Gotta hurry though, before Michelle Obama bans candy. CF:)

Michelle Obama needs to mind her business lol. We don't get any trick or treaters here either. My Sis's little girls look forward to getting their candy buckets every year. I bet your grand kids would love it as well. My Sis's girls are 7 and 4.
Before she had her second baby I used to make the oldest a big black cauldron of candies. One year it weighed 16 pounds.

Janie, most of my grand kids are grown, or think they are. But 2 are still kinda young. 7 and 13 years old. So the wife picked up couple buckets and some candy. Now I gotta go back and get more candy, they only half full.I will be a great Granddaddy again in a few weeks. Got 12 grand kids and 3 great grand kids. Dang I am getting old. Loving every minute. CF:)

I'm sure you are a fantastic Daddy and Grandad. Candy prices are up this year. I noticed in the sale papers today that some places were having some decent sales on candy as it gets closer to Halloween. I stopped by today and got the one last bag I needed for my two buckets. The kids had specifically requested Air Heads and The Dollar General had them in the Sunday paper. The just fit in the buckets so now I am all done. Did you get yours done yet??

There are two Dollar General stores here in town less than a mile apart. I was honestly shocked to see the huge assortment of candy they had and the prices were really good. I bought two packs of the full size six count candy bars at Walmart the other day and they were $3.99 each. I had a dollar off two coupon but I thought that was very high. Last year the same thing was two for five dollars.

That is why I was so glad when Jon's Dad started buying pizzas for holiday dinners and all I had to make were 2-3 desserts. Before he would give me $50 and expect me to get a huge ham and turkey plus sides and desserts. I ended up having to spend a lot of my own money to feed people he invited and that I only saw the one or two times a year. Even though he talked about how much food had risen in price he did not seem to equate it to how much it was for those dinners when there were 15-16 people to feed. Last year before I found out he was gonna do pizza I had already told Jon I was going to have to have a long talk with his Dad about how much it all costs and that I simply could not afford to fill in everything the $50 didn't cover any more.
The funny part was when they found out last year we were just having pizza and dessert no one showed up but Jon and I plus his brother and his wife and kids. All of the others didn't wanna come when they found out there would be no dinner leftovers to pack off home. I told Jon that showed what they were actually coming for all along.
A good friend of Jon's mentioned maybe splitting the cost of a lamb with us. He is checking in to prices right now. If I can manage it I would love to have lamb for the holidays. It is crazy high in the store. The same boneless 4 pound leg of lamb I bought three years ago for $16 or so is now $30-$40. Living in farming country I am hoping he finds one at a decent price.

Good luck on the lamb. Lamb and goat is way more than beef. I do buy goat now an then. If it is marked down. I always check the marked down bin for meat. I call it the used meat bin. CF

Janie, I have a friend that lives in Campton, Ky. are you far from there? He might could find you a lamb. he lives back in the woods. CF

OK, on the lamb. Sorry bout that.
I made my trip to Dollar General. Came back with about $10.00 in sweets. They gonna be happy. CF

No need to be sorry. I appreciate the thought. Hopefully Jon's friend will find one at a decent price.

Glad you got the candy!

congrats CF - you're very fortunate to have such a great family!

Janie - your buckets look so good! Last year I gave my babies T & T bags loaded with cookies, cereal, candy, toys, books, DVD's - so this year I have to come up with something different. Still thinking.......
