I used to love waching Hawaii Five-O. It's the longest running police drama and for the most part was filmed entirely in Hawaii. Who can forget the standard line, 'book em Danno' that was the staple of McGarrett (Jack Lord).

I last saw Hawaii Five-O on the Hallmark channel a year ago or so, but it has vanished from cable. I'd buy it on DVD, but it doesn't seem to be offered.

Anyone know if this is coming out on DVD or if it will return to Hallmark channel?

We have something in common. I also loved watching Hawaii Five-O when it was being shown. I even had my TIVO automatically recording them for me to watch. I wish I had copied them to DVD when I had them recorded. I would love to purchase all the seasons of Hawaii Five-O if they were available. I periodically check Amazon to see if they are available no luck so far. If I find the DVD's I will let you know.

It seems strange to me that Hawaii Five-O isn't in the infinite cable channel replay scene. Jack Lord died just a few years ago, so I wonder it there isn't a legal battle over the rights to the show. I think Leonard Freeman was the producer, and he's also deceased.

Okay, I did some research into why Hawaii Five-0 isn't out on DVD yet. There is a movie version of Hawaii Five-0 that will be coming out in 2007. Here's the Hawaii Five-0 deal announcement from 2004 from the Honolulu Star Bulletin on the Hawaii Five-O movie deal.

It looks like Ben Affleck may be McGarrett in the Hawaii Five-0 movie according to this release on Dark Horizons.

The Hawaii Travel Newsletter reports that filming on the movie is to be in 2006 and released in 2007. I would guess that the marketing experts at Dream Works will release the Hawaii DVD's after the movie plays on at the theaters or at least right along with it to take advantage of the hype.

So the timing of the end of the playing of the Hawaii Five-0 shows on The Hallmark Channel seems to be about the same time that this deal was signed. The initial plan by Dream Works Studios was to release the Hawaii Five-0 movie in 2006, but things take longer then you think, even if you take account that things take longer then you think.

Part of the delay in the release of the Hawaii Five-0 DVDs was because of a legal dispute over rights to the show between CBS Studios, and the agent for the creator of the series, Leonard Freeman, and Leonard's wife Rose Freeman. That's been settled and lead the way to this deal between Dream Works and the Freeman agent. Dream Works was expected to obtain the rights to the legacy shows produced by Leonard Freeman.

The screen play for Hawaii Five-0 the movie is being written by George Nolfi (Oceans Twelve) and is to closely match the original show.

The producer of the Hawaii Five-0 movie will be George Litto. Litto has a legacy here to, as he worked with Leonard Freeman as a packager for some of the original Hawaii Five-0 series segments. Litto is hoping to turn Hawaii Five-0 into a James Bond like series, and it seems to me that is quiet possible. As I remember the Hawaii Five-0 series, there were several shows that took to episodes. One the comes to minds is the one where McGarrett was held in the sensory deprivation tank.

Hope that's enough information on what's up with Hawaii Five-0. Whew!

I haven't watched the show in like, years. I'm more of a Law and Order kinda gal. :) Anyway, I think the forensic people (when it was previously the cops) are in the limelight now--just look at all the CSI spinoffs.
