Hey Guys

The older man who lives in the back apartment here had a really bad heart attack last week. He is home now but not allowed to climb the stairs here for two weeks. He has a girlfriend but she works 8 hour days. I gave them our number in case they need anything but I need ideas. He is on a strict diet. I made them a roasted chicken with steamed green beans this evening. I have plenty of boneless skinless chicken breast in the freezer I was thinking of grilling him tomorrow. I need side ideas that he can eat.
Id like to take him stuff he could microwave or eat at room temp til his girlfriend gets home.
On the bright side he has to quit smoking so we shouldnt have anymore smoke from his apartment getting into ours from now on.

what about homemade chicken soup with plenty of veggies in it?
usually after a heart attack you are limited with sodium, fats, etc.
a nice noodle casserole with diced chicken is a tummy filler and healthy also.
BBQ is always good - usually it's low fat and very tasty
broiled or baked lemon pepper fish with oven roasted lemomn taters
pasta with sauce (tomatoes are good for you!)

I would steer away from gassy type foods for a while, but a pot of stew loaded with fresh taters, carrots, onions, celery - or even chili with beans added would be nutritional.

Thank you Mama. His girlfriend came over last night. She says he is starting to get cranky from being without smokes, caffeine & sugar. She said the first thing he said when he came back home was that his apartment stank. Since he had not been smoking in the hospital he noticed the smell as soon as he came in. She asked me about getting the smell out and I said well the first big thing is your gonna have to have all of the carpet shampooed. She asked me about going back there and checking on him when she goes back to work Tues. I said I would but I told her I have a severe allergy to cig smoke and it triggers me into an asthma attack. My worst time of the year for seasonal allergies is the Fall. The smell that is still in that apartment gives me an instant severe sinus headache. When I see her today I think Im gonna ask her for their phone number back there so I can just buzz him on the phone and make sure he is ok.
She left me a copy of his diet. He is on low carb, low sodium, low sugar. She said he used to live off of coffee, snack cakes and cigs.

she is going to have to clean all blinds, curtains, shampoo all upholstered furniture and wash down the walls and all the appliances in the house to get rid of the nicotine - I had to help a friend do it - they were heavy smokers - once we started cleaning we could not stop - the cleaning rags and sponges were yellow brown from the nicotine!

she had to call a rug cleaning service that also cleans furniture, draperies and blinds - we did the walls - the ceiling was a b--ch to do, then all the doors - both sides and we had to actually wash all the tables with murphy oil soap and then poish with a clean rag and that white creamy furniture polish - there were 8 of us doing it! no easy job -
and we took turns going down and washing all the bedding, linens and clothing - it was hell------ believe me

She doesnt strike me as being that energetic.
I have made myself a little problem here. He is getting grouchy I guess and she seems to thinks she can spend all of her time here to get away from him. If he is that freakin grouchy I would find a new boyfriend! Jon and I have several computers to fix for friends sitting in the floor and I cannot spend hours entertaining her. I cannot think of anything to talk to anyone about for that long anyway. Jon and I only knew these people in passing til this week. Jon told me it was my own fault for being nice to them but I was only trying to help ..I didnt intend to move her in with me. If my sense of smell is right he is smoking up a storm when she is gone anyway. I opened my dryer last night and the smell of cig was very strong and it was also coming into my bathroom.

time to cut the umbilical cord - you are just going to have to tell her that they are going to have to go for counseling - you really haven't got the time for chit chat beause you have fallen behind in your work - tell her that when things calm down for you that you will call her for a cup of coffee and let it go at that -

or have your coat on and be ready to go out the door when she shows up - eventually she will get the hint

Try to tactfully tell her the truth. It may be hard but in the long run, you can rest easy knowing you handled it rightfully.

OK now onto the problem of the apartment cleaning! Call Serv-Pro or SERVICE MASTER and they will get it de-nicotined!

Now as far as "Old-Boy" smoking that's on him, his gal-pal , his Doc, heck even his heart 'aint gonna make him stop inless he wants to bad enough! So if ya' all want to just leave that alone it'd probably be best to just move on and let that subject drop.

Now as far as "clingy" behavior from the gal-pal just as Rick mentioned be straight-forward and kindly let her know how terribly busy you are and that as much as you'd like to you just can't spend much time visiting. She'll understand! Janie take it as a compliment that she thinks you're really sweet and she must really like visiting with you or she probably would not.

I know one thing IF YOU WERE MY NEIGHBOR you'd have to kick my azz out:D

Boy, this is a really tuff one, janie. And you being so nice and good natured- well, I know how eazy it is for some folks to walk all over others- and really push taking advantage. Not that you wouldn't be more than willing, but...

I used to travel home to my folks several times a year when I was young, and had just travelled up north. At that time everyone still smoked- my Dad, his second wife, my sister and her boyfriend. The stench was awful. It got so bad that I started only traveling home w/ cheap luggage and clothes I'd pick-up at Goodwill days before the flight- and then just throw it all away upon my flight back north. Even the duffel bags would stink to high heaven of stale smoke from sitting in a house w/ smokers for a week or two.

I had a bad allergy headache yesterday afternoon so I took some allergy pills and was taking a nap. Jon and I had gone to Walmart early to get groceries for us and my brother. I get to sleep and his girlfriend knocks and wakes me up. She knocks the whole time I was on my way to the door while I was yelling Im coming. I had to put my little dog in his carrier before I opened the door. She asked me to go to the store and get them some diet coke. She said she was home yesterday because it was a vacation day. Well he has a much newer and nicer car than mine which was setting in the parking lot. I asked her if something was wrong with their car and she goes uh no..I just thought you could get it if you were going back out. I said I was taking a nap and Im waiting on my brother to come and get the groceries I picked him up this morning. I really cant go anywhere. Her boyfriend comes walking around the balcony doing laps and scowls and her and goes if you want pop then go and get it. She must be very lazy. THEN she comes back later with a two year old kid by the hand who is obviously sick with a bad cold wanting to come in and talk. I met her at the door and said I like you Hon but Jon doesnt care for kids and I dont want the kids cold. We have tons of computer work to get done. I gave the little kid a cook skull sucker from the candy I have been buying for Halloween. I told her I would have her over for coffee as soon as we get caught up. Jon has a lot of scar tissue in his lungs and I do try and keep him from getting sick. I dont even have my sis and her kids in here if they are sick.
Jon does not care for kids when they are that small. When my sis brings her kids he mostly stays in the bedroom reading a book til they leave. I would never take a sick kid to visit someone especially now in cold/flu season.

On Tuesday I took him 2 grilled boneless, skinless chicken breasts I rubbed a little olive oil on and sprinkled with dried herbs and garlic. I did the same to some medium shrimp and fixed steamed broccoli. She was home Wed and I saw him today sailing around the balcony so he should be fine.
If she doesnt get the message after what I told her Im just not going to open the door for her. Our friends normally call before they stop by anyway.

She totally lacks any kind of common courtesy, and has zilch in the brains dept! People that brazen do not deserve friends at all as they will only use them, and give nothing in return (except giving you their kids rotten cold)

I do not blame you, I would not open the door either!!! Janie I would not feed old boy anymore food either:mad: only thing wrong with him is some loose screws in the head! And a death wish if he is smoking again!!!

She would be someone who would try and use you for everything I think.

He brought my plate back this evening that I took the chicken and shrimp on the other day. He was asking me how I made the chicken. He said he really liked it. I told him a small bit of olive oil, minced garlic and herbs de provence then grilled on an electric grill. I told him the only place around here to get those herbs is Krogers a couple of counties over and they are not cheap. He said oh well...never mind then we would never get around to that. I was interested in helping him as long as he was trying and helping himself but he is smoking again and his doctor told him he stands a good chance of having another much worse heart attack if he did it again. So my kitchen is closed.
Thankfully today she hasnt knocked but we were gone alot today.
We went and helped Jons Dad take care of some things today. His old school teacher and her son called and asked Frank to help them pick up taters they dug out with the tractor. So Jon and I volunteered to help lol. I managed to fall and bust my tail then Jon's Dad goes hey I expected Jon to fall not you lol. I stuck my tongue out at him. He said I heard you knee pop when you fell and I said hey Im glad it was my knee and not my jeans lol. I stood back up after I fell ...didnt feel a draft and went back to work. The son there has had cancer and the Mama is in her late 80's. When we were done he went to get the checkbook to try and pay us so we ran and got in the car and said thanks no money and left lol. She was yelling from the porch hey atleast let us give you a kitten and I said HEY no one told me there were kittens! I wanted to love on the kittens.

She had another son who was around 55 and in perfect health. He had a 19 year old son who also lives there. Both of them sat in the house refusing to help their disabled brother gather his potatoes. Nice huh?

If he has to limit fatty foods and caffiene he probably needs to limit sodium also. I'm collecting up a lot of low sodium recipes )with Mama's help of course).

I saw the neighbor driving his car yesterday so he must be feeling ok. His girlfriend was driving his car and then I noticed it had a long deep gouge down the passenger side that wasnt there before. Im guessing he made her park it. I saw her old car was back in the parking lot but way over on the other side of the lot. She hasnt been back to my door anymore which suits me fine. I have been sick with a stomach bug this weekend and Id prefer not to share it.
Today Jon and I took a break from computers and I got to do what ever I wanted while he read. I made his buddy a double batch of fudge I had promised him a few weeks ago. I roasted a chicken and taters and got some cleaning and laundry done. I have been playing my favorite old Halloween movies to watch and listen to while I work. I took my neighbor with the little dog a few pieces of peanut butter fudge while it was still warm.

Yesterday my brother in law came by and got some caramel apples I made for my sis and her girls and a pot of soup. I also sent her a pan of cornbread and turnip greens. My brother came by and brought me some pills for my tummy. I fed him smoked buffalo chicken wings, cornbread and greens. I sent his wife a caramel apple by him when he left. It struck me I am their Paula Deen lol. My sis says I cook like her and she sounds just like her. She has a twang way worse than mine.
