Yup, you heard right. About 2 months ago NASA launched a rocket toward the Moon which was to orbit until they figured out where and when it would strike. It was hoped that it would create a tremendous dust cloud that a sister satellite would pass through and analyze what it finds.

The location has now been determined and will occur on Oct. 9th at about 4:30 am Pacific Time. You can read more about it at the following link:
NASA Names Target on the Moon

Its supposed to be visible for anyone between Hawaii and California who has a 10" telescope. I hope it doesn't give the Man In The Moon a black eye. :)

Geez all they need to worry about is damned moon dust!!!
Awe-inspiring earth shattering particles freakin moon dust contains is probably going to explain all the unknown mysteries of the universe!!! So important that they have to spoil even the tranquility of the moon, isn't bad enough that they've bombed the hell outta the earth!

I love astronomy and looking at the planets with telescopes, but gezz bomb the moon to study the dust??? Give me a break!!!

Some people say there is an extra-terrestrial base on the backside of the moon. I wonder if the E.T.'s would get upset having a missile land in their backyard.

Our tax dollars hard at work.

That experiment is all well and good but there are bigger concerns. The shuttle is due to be retired and the project to replace it has stalled and may be cancelled. Folks, we'll no longer be able to get into space on our own power, we'll have to buy rides from Russia and soon China. The US manned space program is pretty much over and our technology is falling back while we import all the components for our remaining space projects. The US is becoming a second rate nation thanks to our short sighted and self serving leadership.
