Sad Oranges :(

I'm not able to get my hands on a damned decent orange here lately

I've shopped at Aldi's, Kroger's, Jewel and Walmart and every orange I get is completely devoid of flavor and aroma.

Is anyone else having the same misfortune?

(White grapes I recently purchased, however, have the BEST flavor I've tasted in years!)

Kevin, same trouble here. but we just have WM. One only wonders where they came from or how old they might be. There produce all looks OK but will not hold long. CF:)

Oranges don't develop their best sweetness until the first chill of the season. Something about the chill causes them to produce sugar. Peak time for picking them is December - February. We've had several nights of cold weather recently, so the best oranges should start hitting your markets soon.

The ones on my tree in the back yard weren't fit for picking until now.

I'm glad to hear that SilverSage. Our oranges have been pretty poor here in Louisiana. It's nice to know I have something to look forward to.

Yes- thanks for the orange-info SilverSage! Great to know! C an hardly wait for the cream of the crop- that is if the chills you guys have suffered haven't taken them all!

That first frost of the season thing for sweetness also is a rule for the blueberries, low-bush cranberries and salmonberries in Alaska and other northern parts like Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota and Maine.

I got some wonderful clementines a few days ago. It was a five pound box. They were sweet and juicy.
