Special thanks for a fantastic trip through my own childhood

To Mama - Last night I chanced onto the link to "Mama's Kitchen" and spent a grand total of six hours reading and absolutely wallowing in memories and, as well, learning things everyone ought to know - and just about nobody does!

First I read through what you'd had to say about what supermarkets do to foods they "prepare in store" and what the conglomerates are doing to the products our mothers used to "swear by". God, it made me totally sick! Thanks to you, Mama, I'm going to be shopping much differently in the days, weeks and years to come and feeding my family much healthier foods. I've been making my own bread for many years but that was pretty much the extent of my "homemade" fare - things (sauces, baking mixes, jams, jellies, fruits and even veggies) could always be purchased so much more quickly at the supermarket. I most wonder my husband and my sons managed to live through it!

Then I read with the greatest pleasure your memories of the milkman (I also remember the glass milk bottles with the cream freezing and popping out the top of the bottle on a cold winter's morning) and we also had a "bread man" who came around twice-weekly. Plus the man who peddled the veggies and fruits which he grew himself and I also recall the five and dime stores with the lunch counters and places like Robert Halls and Sears and Roebucks. God, the memories. Thank you for the best six hours I've had in literally years! And this is only the beginning - I plan to read Mama's Kitchen much, much more and learn from the best! I'm absolutely gobsmacked and in awe!! :):)

My gosh Katie - you actually spent that amount of time reading my gibberish?
You say you went to Mama's Kitchen - do you mean -

Mamas Secret Recipes

where I told all about the family, etc. as well?

I've been merging my blogs all into one - mamassecretrecipes - to free myself up for other things I have planned.

Memories - oh I would give anything to go back to those days! Anything!

I'm glad you also share the same!

Oh yes, I, too, would love going back and reliving parts of my growing up. But I always must remind myself that many of those times were tough and many people suffered a lot, then, too. Many of those years were the war
years in Britain and were lean ones for most. Some of the memories of the era of the Blitz aren't pleasant ones! Mostly I remember wondering if every child I saw on the street looked like Oliver Twist and was orphaned and hungry! Sadly, many were. Most Americans never knew that kind of depravation or fear!

You're right, incidently, it was "Mama's Secret Recipes" that I spent so much time reading last night. I can get so sunk into reading that I can spend an entire day doing nearly nothing else - I'm rather a lazy baggage I suppose!
