Steam Mop

Has anyone ever owned one of those Shark Steam mops? I've been wanting to get one but wanted some opinions before I spent the money. Since I've been trying to avoid using chemicals to clean my tile floors I thought it would be a great idea to lift dirt and grease (kitchen) and dissinfect without any chemicals at all. Feedback is appreciated.

I have never owned one, but I did like my Swiifer Wet-Jet until they said the cleaning solution contained chemicals that can make pets deathly sick.

I used to clean house for a company and they said that Hot white vinegar water is the best to clean tile and I imagine the Shark Steam mop would do a terrific job and not hurt the tile at all! I would not over do it with hard-wood though if you have any hard-wood floors.

Yes vinegar is great for cleaning and I've often used it to clean my backsplash tiles and floors. It's really great for grout too. The only problem is that I HATE that vinegary smell!

I own a steam buddy that has a floor mop option. I've never found that the "steam" gets hot enough or under enough pressure to really do that much good (for the price). If you have a terry cloth cover you have to clean it afterwards, which is a pain, and if it is just a brush, you have to use something else to do the actual cleaning and picking up and then it has cooled down again.

For grease it does soften it, but you have to follow through with a good dry paper towel to pick up the excess and then you still have to go back with a regular cleaner to get the grease residue. The steam just softens and spreads the grease around.

I don't think the newer fad models work any differently. I wouldn't waste the money.
