    Default "White" Balsamic Vinegar

I was trying a recipe tonight that called for white balsamic vinegar. I've never heard of it or seen it, and there was no such thing at my store. I had to go with regular balsamic vinegar and, while I liked the outcome of the recipe, I can't help but wonder...what's up with white balsamic vinegar? Does it have that much of a different taste from regular balsamic vinegar?

The recipe was in Southern Living, which usually doesn't call for ingredients that are difficult to find.

Just curious if y'all had ever tried white balsamic vinegar.

Balsamic vinegar is very dark with a stronger flavor - more of a "port" flavor - white balsamic has a sweeter flavor and won't change the color of your dish presentation.

I am really surprised that you are having a hard time finding it because it is very popular because of its flavor and color!

I've never heard of white balsamic vinegar either, but i will have to keep a lookout for it now. It sounds like a great flavor! Could it be used in salad dressings in place of regular balsamic?

I have since asked my local cooking "expert," and she told me the little tiny shop in town that sells the white balsamic vinegar. So now I am all set for the next time I try that recipe!

    Trader Joes has it, IIRC.
