Amazon.com sells groceries (with free shipping!)

I just discovered this last month and placed an order yesterday. They have a lot of basic staples (in bulk) for cheap, as well as a good variety of organic/healthy foods for good prices.

And my favorite part is that their regular "orders over $25 qualify for free shipping" and they have a "$10 off a $50 order" sale going too. So i was able to try out some new types of protein bars as well as restock with some staples (cereal, etc...) that we needed.

Free Shipping? Eh? There is no such thing as free shipping ... the shipping cost is in the product price. We pondered about this in our pricing structure, and thought it un-fair to add shipping into the product so we could offer "free shipping". Once you put 3 items in your cart, you've paid the shipping, and all of the extra shipping cost that's "hidden" in the product price is profit. We didn't like that approach, so we charge the lowest price possible, and actual shipping costs.

Now, if everyone just ordered 2 garlic powder, and 1 taco seasoning from Amazon, and they'd go broke because the margins are slim and won't cover the shipping cost to most residential addresses.

You have to buy at least $25 worth of items to qualify for free shipping - same as when you buy books or CD's from them.

They take the prices, add shipping to them, and set them so they break even at $25.00, hoping you order more. Here at Spice Place we charge a fair price, lower than Amazon, and charge actual shipping cost.

The point I was trying to make is, if you were to place a $100.00 order with Spice Place, and order the same items from Amazon, your order would cost less with Spice Place because they've loaded their sale price with shipping costs [so that they can offer "free shipping"]. The fact is that Amazon is not offering free shipping, they've added it to the product price. Order a lot of heavy low cost food items and you'll make them change their pricing model :)
