BEER BREAD

3 cups self rising flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 can (12oz.) beer

1/4 cup butter, melted

Preheat oven to 350* F. Combine self-rising flour and sugar in mixing bowl; stir in beer. Spoon into loaf pans.

Bake in preheated oven 50 minutes; remove from oven and brush top with melted butter. Return to oven and bake an additional 5 minutes.

VARIATIONS: Omit sugar and add sliced black olives or grated Cheddar cheese or Cheddar and chopped jalapenos!

Enjoy.

That sounds good! The only kind of beer bread i've eaten has been one made with a Tastefully Simple mix (which was pretty good). I hate dealing with yeast, and to be honest had not really heard of self-rising flour before. Sounds like a great invention that makes baked goods a lot easier!

Do you think this could be made with butter omitted or would that alter the flavor too much?

If you want to make your own self-rsisng flour, here's how it is done:

In a large mixing bowl, measure 6 cups of flour.
Add 3 tablespoons baking powder.
Add 1 tablespoon salt.

Either sift together or mix with a wire whisk until well combined.
Can be stored in airtight container for months.

Self-rising flour can be used in just about any baking recipe - just omit the baking powder and salt!

Regarding the butter - you don't have to use it.

An even easier recipe is to use 2 2/3 c. self-rising flour and 1 can (12 oz.) beer for easy beer bread!
