Candy Sushi

I don't even know what it is.

Could you elucidate?

It not real sushi. Its dessert snacks that look like sushi. Would be fun idea for kids or even grown ups. You use donuts, marshmallows, and fruit snacks. They are really cute snacks. You can check out the recipe here: SAFEWAY

Would you try them?:D

Haha...I think Sandra Lee has a lot of great ideas. She has a lot of books out too on every type of cooking recipes it seems. This candy sushi might be something similar to the recipes in her kids cooking book.
What is it about her recipes that you don't like?

I think she's a major contributor to the culinary dumbing of North America.

In general, I don't like convenience products. And the idea that opening boxes and cans is cooking is, to me, a joke.

I think it's symptomatic of her phonyness that a show based on using 80 percent store bought stuff takes a crew of 25 to produce.

Gee whizz. And here, cooking from scratch, I do a better job with a crew of just me.

Besides which, if she was flat chested and gray haired, do you think the food network would consider her ideas so great?

Loved the laugh you brought my way!

Hi KYH,
I burst out laughing at your comment re:Sandra Lee :)confused:whom by the way I do not know but from what I gather must be a food network celeb.) Alot of truth in there though!
When we do cook from scratch it's just so much more rewarding!!! Plus I can only imagine so much more nutritional! I do understand the convienience and time factor for all the couples that have dual working members ( like my household ). But if a soul can possibly go from scratch it is just so much more TASTY, A PRETTIER PRESENTATION, AND JUST PLAIN OLE' "SLAP YOUR SELF ON THE BACK"...AND COMPLEMENT YOURSELF ON ANOTHER JOB WELL DONE:D!
Thank you KYH for the terrific laugh & wisdom you interjected into my morn. hope you have a terrific weekend, Cathy

Plus: Spice Great: That Candy Sushi sounds cute, personally I am not a sushi fan but my children love the stuff, and since they have young children I'll bet they'd like this idea!

I have my favorite Motto posted at my desk for all to see:
:D"Laugh to forget; but Don't forget to laugh!":D

Cathy,

Sandra Lee is, indeed, one of the Food Network celebs. She is a classicaly trained chef who consciously decided to throw that out the window, because store-bought and convenience products are just as good as making something from scratch.

Her show is called "Semi-Home Made," and the idea is that 80% of the dishes are from cans, boxes, frozen foods, etc., and 20% comes from you massaging them into a meal with your own touch. There is an audience for that sort of thing. A large audience, unfortunately. I'm just not numbered among them.

She also belongs to Food Networks group of soft-porn stars. In her case, instead of all but baring her bosum, as some others do, she's stuck in the 1950's, and wears sweaters two sizes too small.

If I want to watch that sort of thing I can tune in the Playboy channel!

And, as I said, how convenient can it be if it takes 25 people to do what she does?

In some ways she reminds me of the early Martha Stewart, who's whole schtick was making millions of women feel inadequate.

 HOLLYWOOD!!!

I JUST DON'T WATCH THAT MUCH TV - IT FAILS TO CAPTIVATE AND ENTERTAIN ME ANYMORE - ALTHOUGH ON OCCASION I GET A NICE SURPRISE AND CATCH SOMETHING GOOD!

LOL -

Bashing Sandra Lee!!!

OMG!

I watched her a couple times - only because I was too lazy to get up and change the channel.

An early Martha Stewart! Be real. Martha Stewart is an absolute NOBODY and she cannot cook - period.

At least Sandra Lee can play in the kitchen like a baby.

Don't you wish you can change all the colors in your kitchen to match your sweater on a daily basis?

I am not a fan of hers - but - since you mentioned Candy Sushi -

here goes:

Candy Sushi
by RACHEL RAY

1 tablespoon butter, cut into pieces
12 regular marshmallows
2 cups puffed rice cereal (recommended: Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal)
4 fruit roll-ups (pressed dried fruit rounds, 8 inches) any brand, any flavor
8 strips licorice candy (recommended: Twizzler's brand), any flavor ? pieces should be 6 to 7 inches long, trim to match width of roll-ups

Melt butter in a medium saucepan over low heat and add marshmallows. Stir marshmallows until completely melted. Remove mixture from heat and add cereal. Stir to coat cereal evenly in melted marshmallows.

Roll out the fruit roll-ups. Place 1/4 of the coated cereal onto each fruit roll up and spread and gather toward 1 side of roll up. Place 2 licorice twists onto the center of the spread out cereal mix. Wrap and roll the candy and fruit, maneuvering the licorice to the center of the roll, so that the finished product resembles a sushi roll. Repeat with remaining rolls.

Place a sharp knife into a bowl of very warm water. Cut candy sushi with warm knife and arrange on a plate then serve.

I don't know if Sandra Lee could handle this - LOL!

Poor Sandra Lee - got bashed for nothing!

Mama M,
Thanks for the recipe! And at least it is made with a real rice in cereal form! These are cute, I think the fruit roll-ups are somethnig we ate as kids called "fruit leather" (which had a tangy taste -n- we loved it) they were home made and din't contain all the food coloring! But I know my grands would get a kick out of these sushi candy, they are cute I lookes up the safeway recipe that Spice is Great gave us and they are just adorible!

FYI: My fiance used to work with UPS in NY city and he delivered to GUESS WHO? Ok give up...
Martha Stewart, well he has nothing but nice things to say about her, she treated her UPS man very respectfully even gave him a generous tip at Christmas time. After he shared this with me I gave up bashing her, I mostly thought she was a bore, and still do. But I won't bash Poor Martha Stewart anymore, I'm reformed (somewhat)! LOL

Glad you can use the recipe - but as far as Martha goes - there's a few things about her that I will nver care for.

I'm glad she treated your fiance well! It is nice to hear!

KYH, you are funny. Haha...Sandra bashing seems to be something you are very good at. I'm still laughing at your posts...haha.

Thanks MM for the recipe as well. I have to admit yours is a little more work. Safeway's recipe is "Semi-Home Made"...haha.

CCC, I'm sure your grandkids will have fun making and eating Candy Sushi. Whatever recipe you might use since they will be making it with you. :)
