Chili-Cheddar Biscuits

3 cups all-purpose Flour
2 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp dry red chili flakes
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
3/4 cup Cheddar cheese, shredded
1 1/2 cups milk

Preheat oven to 425 °F.

Blend flour with baking powder, chili flakes, chili powder and salt. Add butter and cut into dry mixture using a pastry blender or two knives until mixture is crumbly. Add 1/2 cup of the Cheddar cheese and toss to combine.

Make a well in the dry ingredients and pour in milk. Stir until a ragged dough forms. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead until dough comes together. Roll or pat to 3/4-inch thickness.

Cut into desired shapes, re-rolling scraps, and arrange on an ungreased baking tray. Sprinkle remaining cheese over tops.

Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden on the bottom. Makes about 18.

Hi Mama,

I am having a soup tonight that has quite a bit of heat to it, so I am going to make these and leave out the chile powder & peppers, I know they will be just as good:p yummy!!--Cheddar Biscuits!!!

Cheddar Bay Biscuits

4 cups baking mix (Bisquick or other)
3 oz Cheddar cheese, shredded
1 1/3 cups water
1/2 cup melted butter
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon dried parsley

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a mixing bowl, combine the baking mix, cheese, and water. Mix until dough is firm. Using a small scoop, place dough on the prepared pan. Bake at 375 degrees F for 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden brown.

Combine the melted butter, garlic powder, salt, onion powder and parsley. Brush over baked biscuits immediately upon removing from oven. Makes 20 biscuits.

MamaM you will love this one!

Mama I get home and start mixing the biscuit batter up, set the oven to preheat, and finish preparing the biscuit dough...it's ready and I check the oven..nothing, zip, nada, zilch, nothing NO HEAT what so ever, so I have to act quick and I decide to heat up the iron skillet and cook the dough up "hoe-cake" style. Well I have not cooked a hoe-cake in forever and never with this Cheddar Bay dough, well let me tell you it was fabulous:p My 8 yr. old cleaned her entire plate and wanted yet another piece of the hoe-cake! Ho-ho-ho I won this battle OVEN!!! And the repair man w/b here tomorrow! :D

And that could go under the helpful hints thread!!! Oven broke no thing...use the ole' cast iron skillet!

Cathy -

That recipe has been used for camping, etc. And where there is a will - there's a way!
