Four-Legged Treats

1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
3 tbs. vegetable oil
1 1/2 cup flour (may use part whole wheat)
1/4 cup dry nonfat milk powder
2 tsp salt or garlic salt
1/2 cup water
cooking spray

In a large bowl, mix cheeses with oil. Stir in flour, milk powder and salt until blended. Add water and knead until stiff yet pliable dough forms. Roll dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness, and cut out treats with a cookie cutter. Gather scraps and re-roll and cut until dough is used. Bake on a lightly sprayed baking sheet in a 350* oven for 25-35 minutes turning once during baking. Treats should be golden brown. Let cool on a wire rack.
Yield: 20-30 treats

I fix these occasionally for Ruger, he Loves them I'm fixing some tonight for his stocking

These sound good and I want to make them for my dog but...........
If Ruger is your dog PLEASE OMIT THE SALT do not use it what-so-ever!!! I used to work at a vets office and salt is not good in a Dog's diet, their system can not handle it, and there's enough salt in the cheese so he will have the saltiness from it.

By the way here is a reallY good recipe for homemade dogfood if you ever want to try it:

Here's MY FAVORITE DOGFOOD RECIPE:

8 C. BROWN RICE
1 C. PASTA
25 C. WATER
2-3 LBS. FROZEN MEAT (BEEF, LAMB, OR CHICKEN)
2 CUPS VEGGIES (PEAS, CARROTS, SQUASH, BROCCOLI, CELERY, APPLES, BLUEBERRIES)
1 C. OATMEAL
1/2 C. CANOLA OIL
1/2 C. BUTTERMILK POWDER
3 EGGS
1/4 C. HEALTH SUPPLEMENT (RECIPE BELOW)

USING A LARGE DUTCH OVEN; BRING WATER WITH FROZEN MEAT TO A BOIL, ADD BROWN RICE LET SIMMER 25 MIN'S. REMOVE MEAT, COOL AND CHOP FINE; I USE MY BLENDER AND PULSE UNTIL MEAT IS CONSISTENCY OF BABY FOOD. RETURN MEAT TO POT, AT THIS TIME ADD TOTAL REMINING INGREDIENTS, EXCEPT THE HEALTH FOOD SUPPLEMENT. COOK JUST UNTIL PASTA IS DONE. I ALSO USE MY EGGS WITH THE SHELL AND ALL, I JUST PUT THEM IN THE BLENDER AND BLEND UNTIL FROTHY BEFORE ADDING TO THE POT.

ALLOW TO COOL A LITTLE WHILE, STIR IN HEALTH FOOD SUPPLEMENT AND MIX WELL. THEN PUT INTO FREEZER CONTAINERS AND FREEZE.

***NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENT***
(THESE INGREDIENTS CAN BE FOUND AT A HEALTH FOOD STORE)

2 C. NUTRITIONAL YEAST (***NOT FLEISHMAN'S BAKING TYPE***)
1 C. SOY LECITIN GRANULES
1/4 C. HUMAN GRADE BONE MEAL
1/4 C. DRIED KELP
1/4 C. DRIED PARSLEY
1/4 C. FLAX SEED

MIX TOGETHER ALL INGREDIENTS AND KEEP STORED IN A COVERED CONTAINER IN THE REFRIGERATOR. ADD 1/4 C. TO EVERY BATCH OF DOG FOOD YOU MAKE.

FEED 1 CUP PER EVERY 10 LB BODY WEIGHT A DAY.

DO NOT FEED ONION, GARLIC, CHOCOLATE, AVACADO'S OR SALT & SUGAR TO DOGS

Ruger loves cheese I fix these for him maybe 4 x a year. I knew about the no chocolate but not the onion, garlic, avacado, salt and sugar. I don't give him table scraps our vet said that was a big no-no for dogs. He is fed Hill's Diet d/i . I will leave the salt out of the recipe this time.

Good deal! A very small amount of garlic powder is not harmful, just don't use too much! The reason our food is not good for dogs is the soduim level, also they in no way need alot of the sugary foods we consume, nor excess protein, nor too much fat. Hill's is an excellent food! I used Iams for years, but for almost a year I made homemade food for my dog Zeke. Then I found out that Purina had not been recalled during that big pet food recall that contained melamine from the Republic of China. And I began using Purina Mighty Dog for my little guy! He loves it and his weight is perfect and his energy level is very active, he has a nice shiny coat and he is in excellent health so I am content with that. I am using Pedigree Puppy for the moment for our new puppy Duke. I will see what we do when he is mature. Hill's is a bit pricey for my budget.

Ruger is 85% timber wolf and the rest huskie, so having him is different than most domestic dogs. I have to be very careful of the content of "dogfood" he eats and 2-3 times a week he is allowed to have meat (cooked rare). He has lived inside with me and my son and we are a "family pack" unit, wolves can't be contained in pens or they will show aggressive behavior towards people, even owners, by the time they reach 3 years old. I could go on and on about life with a wolf but I'll end here. Thank you for the advice

How exciting, I'll bet you could go on and on!!!! I 'll bet he is BIG, gosh he'd make 50 of my little Zeke Please feel free to share away about Ruger, he sounds very interesting and fun!

I guess you have to keep him in the house to keep him socialized? I think people who put dogs outside all the time in pens is sad, I always feel sorry for the poor guys I would be lonely and bored if I were kept like that!!!

Yes, he stays with me 24/7. If I leave him at home for more than 3 hours he pulls my dirty clothes out of hamper and drags them all over house I have learned so much about wolves from Ruger. I.E. - his urine is far more "potent" than normal dogs, he doesn't play "fetch" games, he doesn't bark even when other dogs are barking at him, but he does wait until someone is at my front door before "sounding the alarm" (scares the poo out people, LOL) and he won't let anyone between me and him. He is extremely intelligent (almost as if he understand my words). He has a nose unlike any dog breed I've ever owned, and he won't attack or show aggression toward any dog unless that dog comes at him first. He doesn't like cats, and tries to pull me up trees after squirrels He has the fifth toe of wolves, which that is where on the front legs dogs have a dew claw Rugers has also a pad. I will post a pic of him soon

Oh, and as for pens, I've never understood the point in having a dog that is kept in a pen, all the time. Dogs are very social and loyal animals, and by buying them we are accepting the responsibility of caring for them in a humane way. That does not mean just making sure they have food and water. What if parents only fed and watered their children and never interacted with them?

I can't wait until you post a photo! It must be very special to have such a unique boy!!!
