Default Italian Burger

Italian Burger


1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
1/4 C. minced scallion
1 T. fresh basil or 1 t. dry
1/2 t. oregano
1/4 C. grated parmesan cheese
1 C. dry breadcrumbs divided
2 eggs
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
oil for the pan
6 slices mozzarella cheese
1 C. tomato sauce

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, scallion, basil, oregano, 1/2 C. breadcrumbs, 1 egg, parmesan cheese, salt and pepper. Form into 6 patties.

Dip patties into egg and them the remaining bread crumbs and lightly coat them.

Heat a skillet to medium and add the oil. Fry the patties until desired doneness, about 10 minutes. Top with the tomato sauce and the cheese. Cook for 5 more minutes.

Serve on French bread or hamburger buns.




Tomato Sauce

2 T. olive oil
28 oz. can crushed plum tomatoes
1/3 C. chopped onion
1 1/2 t. garlic minced
1 t. sugar
2 T. fresh chopped basil or 2 t. dry
1/2 t. oregano
salt and pepper to taste

Saute the onion and garlic in the olive oil. Add the remaining ingredients and cook over medium heat for about 25 minutes or until slightly thick.
