approx. 5 cups self rising flour
1/2 pkt of yeast
1 cup milk
2 tbsp. melted butter
1 egg (room temp.)

Mix all ingredients together until well mixed using a hand mixer or by hand. Dough will be soft. Cover dough and let it sit at room temp a little while.

Oil for frying

Heat oil to 350° and fry tablespoons (I dip the spoon in hot oil before I spoon out the dough) of dough until well browned turn once to fry the other side. This takes approx. 3 min's total.

Glaze:

1/2 c. XXX sugar
2 tsp. or a little more milk
1/2 vanilla extract

Mix well use to glaze cooked doughnuts.

I only cook enough for 2 doughnuts per family member, then cover the rest of the dough and use it for fresh doughnuts the next few nights. It rises well even after refrigeration.

Are you using a Deep Fryer or a skillet? Also, what oil are you using for these donuts? there must be some types of oils that can handle super high heat and give you the flavor that you want.
