Ingredients:

2 cups all purpose flour
1 T baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening (I use Crisco butter flavored)
3/4 cup milk

Directions:

* Preheat oven to 450°F.
1. Mix flower, baking powder, and salt.
2. Cut in shortening until only pea-sized bits remain
3. Mix in milk just enough to wet the dry ingredients. DO NOT OVERMIX!
4. Drop onto a greased baking pan and bake at 450°F for 10-12 minutes.

Variations:
- Add 2 teaspoons ground black pepper and 2 T fresh chopped rosemary to dry ingredients.
- Add 3/4-1 cup of grated cheddar cheese and 1 T powdered garlic to mix after cutting shortening in.
- Make a sweet biscuit by adding 1 T of cinnamon and some raisins to dry ingredients. Top with cinnamon sugar after baking.

Shelly here in the South we serve a Sausage Gravy over our biscuits if you are interested I will post the recipe, just let me know!

Plus I make my biscuits exactly like you do only I use self-rising flour, which my sister who lives in Vermont tells me is hard to find in the stores up north?!? But I like not having to measure and use the salt and baking powder.

My husband likes sausage gravy over his too. I just use the recipe off of the sausage wrapper but I'd love to try another one!
