Turtle Cake
1 box German Chocolate Cake Mix
1 (14 oz) package caramels
1 stick better
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup chopped pecans
1 can flaked coconut
Prepare German Chocolate cake mix according to package directions. Grease and flour a 9x13 pan. Pour in half of batter. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes. Melt caramels in top of double boiler over low heat; add butter and milk and spread over hot cake. Sprinkle with chocolate chips, chopped nuts and coconut. Pour remaining batter on top and bake an additional 30 minutes in a 350° oven. Frost while hot.
Frosting: 1 stick butter, 1/3 cup evaporated milk, 3 ½ teaspoon cocoa, dash of salt, 1 box 4x confectioners’ sugar, 1 cup chopped pecans. Bring butter, milk, cocoa and salt to boil over medium heat. Add sugar and nuts, pouring over cake while both are hot.
