1/2 tsp. baking powder

1/4 tsp. salt

Directions:

Melt and blend shortening and chocolate together. Cool. Beat eggs, add sugar, applesauce, vanilla, pecans and chocolate mixture. Sift flour, baking powder, soda and salt together. Add to mixture. Pour into greased and floured square 8X8-in. pan and bake 30 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees. To decorate top, use paper mat for stencil. Place on top of cake, dust with powdered sugar. Remove mat carefully, lifting straight up. Cut cake into squares. I got this recipe from my mother-in-law - that's why I married her son! :D:D

Good morning, CF! Yeah, a pretty rich pastry - nearly all of my mother-in-laws passed down recipes are rich. Unfortunately, her son isn't - but he's sweet and I'll keep him anyway!!
