Fair foods - tried any odd and/or new ones?

ya know most fairs have a lot of new novelty type food items so I was wondering what you have tried.

The California State fair has all kinds of crazy stuff!! They have a Krispy Creme chicken sandwich (Didn't try) and a deep fried pickle (Meant to try but forgot).

I did try deep fried avacado's and tomato's which were ok, kind of bland and deep fried oreo cookies that were out of this world! They were soooo good,it is a good thing they are not around all the time or that would be my new addiction!!

I've seen crazy food like this. The worst was a fried candy bar Last time we went to the fair I felt like it was just a "who can eat the most and get fat contest" blah

I have wanted to try fried Oreo's, but never had the chance.

Anyone ever have those?

I loooove fried dill pickles.

Fried green tomatoes aren't bad but they are a little bland.

I tried a fried Snickers but it was just too much for me.

But, nothing can beat a classic funnel cake or corn dog!

I've always wondered this.. Ive never had a fried pickle, but am a huge pickle fan..(I hope this isn't a stupid question!) are they still juicy?? Or are they pretty dry?

Yes, they are juicy. And the salty, tart taste is great with the crispy fried outside.

Here is a recipe. I have used it; it's pretty good.


INGREDIENTS:

* 2 eggs
* 1 cup buttermilk
* 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
* 1/2 teaspoon vinegar-based hot pepper sauce
* 3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
* 1/4 teaspoon seasoning salt
* 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
* 1 cup cornmeal
* 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 3/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
* 1 (32 ounce) jar dill pickle slices
* 1 cup vegetable oil for deep frying
* salt and pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS:

1. In a large bowl, combine 2 eggs, 1/4 cup of the flour, buttermilk, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, cayenne pepper, seasoning salt and garlic powder.
2. In a separate mixing bowl, combine cornmeal, 2 cups flour, salt and 3/4 teaspoon black pepper.
3. Preheat oil in a deep fryer or pot to 365 degrees F (180 degrees C).
4. Dip drained pickles into milk mixture and then dredge them in the flour mixture. Deep fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Salt and pepper to taste
