You know Jfain I believe you could get a really beautiful pet at the local shelter. I have received my best pets ever from shelters, you can look on-line at your own area SPCA and see what pets are available for adoption thru them. Also ther are pet rescue organizations that may help you fine a great new pet.

I know but my husband and I travel pretty often so a cat or dog would be more difficult. I don't think they have many ferrets at shelters. When we were traveling we could put them in the huge floor to ceiling cage we built for them and they would feed them selves for 3 days with no problems.

Cookie at the time i had mine i was a stay at home mom (a million yrs. Ago) and i had all the time in the world to play with gabby and talk and pal around with my buddy. I bet it would be hard to train one with-out that kind of time. But i love birds, thay can be such terrific friends and companions! Their cages may get a little dirty at times and alot of work vaccuming up after them, but it is worth it when you get a good one!
I actuall caught one wild one time (my daughter helped me) it was solid yellow and wild, but it made a great pet, not at all tame like gabby was though. I did work at the time and could not spend quality time with "sunny" that was her name, had i had the time to spend with her i am sure we would have bonded! |

I Love all birds, that's cute story about Sunny. We saw a wild parakeet this summer to it was green but didn't stick around very long to catch.

I've shared this before, but I had a pair of salt n' pepper miniature schnauzers named Lilly & Iris that my sister's family watched for me during my long, frequents work-hitches up in Alaska.
When I returned back here to live full-time last Spring, I relished the idea of being near my pair of puppies full-time... but I couldn't do it. Couldn't take then back from my niece and nephew who'd been taking care of them for so long. So, the dogs remain at my sis's and I wanted another dog- but adopted a pair of cats, instead. Here's their pic... |
