Angry Stove Caught on Fire

I got up this morning and decided to make gravy, biscuits, sasuage, egg and fried apples. I got the sasuage and eggs done. Popped the bread in the oven and started my fried apples. I look in the oven and the bottom heating element had burned in two and was in flames. I threw some salt on top of the fire and ran to flip the breaker off to to stove. After it cooled down and I used to the shopvac to get out the salt I found the heating element had burned in two in two places.
Way to give me flashbacks. It was Oct. 2 thre years ago when our bathroom caught on fire and we had to move out while they repaired everything. Luckily I caught this before it got going. All it costs me was a box of kosher salt. Unfortunately our landlord wont be back in til probably Tuesday. Fortunately I have two smaller convection ovens, a grill, crockpot and microwave to use instead lol.
This old stove is over 17 years old so I am hoping they just replace it. Id love to have one that has a light in the oven and a door you can see what your baking through.

Well on the bright side there is sausage and eggs for breakfast and not much damage. It sounds like maybe the wiring in your place needs to be redone?

The building is about 20 years old. They are nice apartments ..only 6 overtop of an insurance office and a tax office. Their problem is when they get appliances they get the cheapest crap they can get. The bathroom fire was in the heater in the ceiling. It has a heater/vent thing by the light in the ceiling. The one is our bathroom shorted out. Come to find out after the fact those had been recalled. After ours caught on fire they replaced them in every apartment. The stove is just wore out. It was a cheap stove to start with.
My fridge went out about 9 years ago and they went and got some brand I had never heard of. It is a Galaxy. They get eveything from Sears. They never even brought me the drawer and shelves to the new fridge. The shelves from the old fridge luckily fit in the new one.

Be thankful that just breakfast was ruined (and you box of salt) - and all is well. Hopefully a new stove with a light and a glass door will be in your (very near) future.

This happened to me years ago when I first started cooking. Broiling a steak in an old stove (rented apt) and everything on the bottom of the oven caught fire along with the steak. I freaked, grabbed a fire extinguisher and put it out. Some time later I watched a video on some govt website about what to do when this happens in the oven. All it said was to turn the power off to the oven, close the door, and let it burn out lol.

Ovens I guess are designed with this in mind and can more than handle the heat. Still, it is a bit unnerving to have a real fire in your kitchen lol.. From that day forward, I made sure that I cleaned my oven regularly. And after all these years of having cheap ovens, we finally got a new one with a self cleaning cycle, man, does that make life easier!

The landlord came in to his office and we were able to let him know. He says they will send their handyman up Mon. I got news for them I dont think their handyman is gonna be able to do anything for that old stove.

I am no longer the stoveless one lol.
They sent the repair guy up this morning with one of the landlords. The handyman told them it just needed to be replaced. They went to Big Sandy here in town where they sell all kinds of furniture and appliances. They had a new stove delivered about an hour ago. It has a light in the oven and the see through door. It has a digital control pad for the oven, timer and clock. I had to get Jon to level it for me after they left lol. The new one is a Frigidaire brand. It is not a flat top. It has the regular burners which I like better. Im going to make some apple pies tonight so I will get to test the oven.
