    Default "New" Food Mag...

The last few years several of the popular food mags that HAD always been my favs went thru some changes, re-vamped and slowly became publications that I just didn't like very much anymore. So, gradually, I stopped re-newing my subscriptions, and stopped picking others up at the mag-racks.

I've missed my long-time favorites- they've been dear friends who seemingly just went away- forgetting to ever call or write!

Tonight in the check-out line at Kroger's for the heck of it I picked up the April "Country Living". My Mom used to read this when I was a kid. Although it's not just a cooking magazine- it does have a nice food section, as I recall, with recipes, articles and great photos each month. This month's certainly was nice w/ some cajun dishes, plus a nice farm-wedding w/ a fancier menu...

CL also boasts many of my other FAV past-times right on the cover, listed directly under the magazine's name: decorating, cooking, crafts, collecting, gardens.

I looked thru this new issue and was thoroughly enertained and even inspired by what I saw.

And in light of the fact that I currently have no food mag meeting my needs, this really pleased me! I can't wait to see the May issue!

I enjoy County Living, Southern Living and Canadian Living. Sometimes we can get the Mid West Living here - not too often.

I had always loved 'Gourmet' and 'Bon Appetit'. But they each made many changes last year and I no longer like either nearly as much.

I also like 'Saveur', 'Cooks illustrated' and 'Fine Cooking', but they are really prciy and I don't find enuf value in every issue to want them all each month.

I do enjoy every issue of MS's 'Living' and now 'Country Living' in part for their great food/cooking sections, but also 'cause they address other hobbies I enjoy as well.

'Sunset' and 'Real Simple' are also nice, with great food sections...

I love Southern Living and Prevention, the only 2 I actually order. I get Travel & Leisure at work and it is only so so, if I were the editor of that mag. it would be totally different and much better I am sure! It just seems dull and traveling should be any thing BUT boring!!!

I get more and more aggravated with every magazine that I pick up. I feel that if I am paying for a subscription or getting a magazine off a stand and paying for it, I shouldn't be swamped with advertisements. It just seems that a good 30% if not more of a magazine now is of advertisements. I hate picking up a magazine, turning it over, shaking it and seeing a hand full of index sized cards of advertisements fall out.
Reading a recipe for meatloaf shouldn't take several pages because some editor decides to throw a Troy Built Roto Tiller advertisement between the ingredients and the directions for preparation.

I agree with IC, the 1st thing I do is get all those ad cards out of it before I even attempt to read it! I HATE THOSE THINGS LITERALLY DESPISE THEM falling out while I am trying to read an article!

Michelle I have never had a Silver Bullett, I use a mini blender and love it, but I am afraid like any type kitchen appliance they all have their +'s and -'s

I use a 'homemade' variety of the Silver Bullet -- Half-pint and Pint canning jars and my blender. It's no coincidence that the blender base/blade has the same threads and fits the standard mason canning jar. Using the smaller jars when blending condiments and sauces is ideal and can be stored in the same jar.
