Default What Do Ya'll Cook When You're just BRAIN-DEAD?

...and don't even want to THINK about food or cooking?

Tonight I was drained. I've been working extra hours and double shifts and I just want to lay on the couch, veg in front of the TV, and SLEEP!

    BUT... I'm hungry, too.

But I didn't want to expend any effort.

    So...

I grabbed a box of wheat thins and a couple slices of deli ham and sliced longhorn cheese. Then I ate a bowl of honey-nut cheerios. Then finally finished a bowl of sweet potatoes instead of saving them to make spice muffins with.

I didn't even have the energy to pack a lunch for my double-shift at work tonight. So, here I sit at my desk, lunch-time is still a ways off, but I have nothing to eat, so unless I plan to skip a meal- I'll need to go out and make a mid-night run to the nearby Kroger's or something...

I know it is going to sound strange but around here we like a small pasta like macaroni cooked in plain old tomato juice, salt & pepper. We cook the pasta about half way in seasoned water and then drain it and finish cooking in tomato juice.
Jon's Mom makes homemade tomato juice that is yummy in it.
We ate it all the time growing up but Jon had never had it when we got married. He loves it now and it is a quick fix. I like crackers and turkey bologna. A bowl of cereal is always a good one when your to beat to cook. Jon loves leftovers so when ever I cook I always make extra which he loves warmed over. I hate leftovers!

Try and get out and get some lunch Hon.

Walmart sells turkey breast steaks that are listed 55 mg sodium per serving (4 oz). I get a 1.25 lb box and divide into 4 to 5 servings in sandwitch bags and freeze them. 2 min in the microwave to thaw then throw one on the grill. Takes just a few minutes. I do the same thing with ground beef, making separate patties in sandwitch bags that thaw in the same amount of time. Thats my go to lunch when there is nothing else.

BTW I am going to try jglass' pasta but use tomato sauce (I can get lower sodium with that). I have a super fast recipe for marinara sauce that I sometimes use on pasta when in a hurry.

That's why it's nice to make your own TV dinners out of leftovers! A simple pop in the oven (or zap in the nuker) and you have something hot and good for you.

I can handle cereal - with fruit if still hungry - but with sweet taters - and after crackers, ham and cheese? OMG - I thought I had a cast iron stomach but Kev - you beat me!

My newest "snack" food - Lucky Charms straight from the box.

I'd do just exactly like you Kevin! I'd graze on whatever I enjoy and just veg. out. Never mind cooking, I'd be lucky to warm a can of stew (Dinty Moore) or some Sweet Sue Chicken & Dumplings Hardly ever to never eat those but I love them and in a pinch I would feast on 'em and devour every bite!!!

I occasionally thow in a pat of butter with my macaroni while it is cooking. It is really good. Butter makes everything better lol. Jon had never had macaroni and tomatoes when we started dating. He loves them now. His Mom makes the best tomato juice. I got some tomato juice at the store the other day and made some mac and tomatoes and it just wasnt as good as when I use her homemade.
