I just have to jump in here guys! When I was a young teen my family used to go to a place almost every weekend in the Florida Everglades, there was a place there called "Don's BBQ" it looked almost like that photo Matt posted only no sign. It was made totally of rough cut lumber and had a tin roof. There was a live band that played all night long, they played LOTS of CCR and classic rock, and some country music and they always had a few Roy Orbison numbers, they were an excellent band!

It was so neat Don did all the BBQ out back in his smoke shed over a wood fire, he had an old bed frame that sat low to the ground and had the grates on it, it helds tons of RACKS of Ribs, they were the best ribs in the world, he served corn-on-the-cob, baked beans, and cole slaw and yeast rolls fresh outta the oven, his place was rustic and it was family oriented. Although they did sell beer, and had a pool room, the pool room was right off the dining room that's where I 1st learned to shoot pool! There were row upon row of wooden picnic tables, and we used to have a ball there..it did not close til the wee hours of the morning. Mom and Dad would dance all night long, all the Miccosukee Indians would be there with their families and they would dance with their wives all night long. The place was wonderful. Don would sell BBQ plates all night long and we would eat til our bellies were full. After that we all drank soda, and the adults would drink beer. Don made a happy living, he was the happiest man I knew he was always smiling. His place was a gold mine, but better that that it was a place for all the locals to hang out and have a good time, we were not locals as we'd have to drive all the way from Miami. I even remember one time some old rednecks showed up to start picking a fight with the Indians one night. Well a brawl broke out, I remember my Dad had a ball that night, he beat a few guys with his fists, and one Indian bit this guys ear, another Indian hit one of the red necks with the cue ball and all the red necks wound up jumping in their pick-up trucks and taking off leaving a trail of dust behind them. They never came back out there looking for trouble! Our Indian friends were some mean old fighters (reminded me of a bunch of mad alligators) and my Irish father never turned down a good fist fight! Oh my goodness what a place we spent many wonderful weekends there!!!! One night my Mom even helped one of the old sows out back in the really large pig-pen when she was giving birth, my Mom was so happy and she smiled for days afterwards> and this woman who herself bore 5 children and all of us stairsteps & never lost the awe and wonder of a new born baby, be it human or animal!

That place has lived on in our memories more years than I care to remember, it is the topic of many family gatherings! That is the kind of BBQ place that was truly one-of-a-kind! Every aspect of it left us many terrific memories!
