    Default Weenie Roast

Dad invited me to the annual VFW Weenie Roast this Sunday Night. Chili, Hot Dogs & Buns, and Caramel Apples are being provided and all are asked to either bring a dish to pass, or show-up early to help rake leaves and build the bonfire.

Dad says most opt to arrive early to assist w/ the yard-work, and that few folks ever actually bring food to this event and that anything brought would likely be gobbled-up!

What would you take to share at an event like this?

    Tatter salad.

BTW my neighbor is the head of the local VFW and getting on in years. I'm driving him to his VA appt about an hour south of here in Alexandria this morning which I do for him about once a month since they don't want him driving any more. I had to pack a lunch since we will be there several hours and my low sodium diet does not fit in with fast food. So I'm taking my version of tuna salad and the left over "Moorish Crunch Salad" from our very own jfain. Now everything will fit in my little ice chest along with my Diet Rite white grape juice so I'm good to go. I can feed him fast food.

I agree with JP a good Potato Salad can not be beat, if you are pressed for time try making a nice Macaroni Salad or if all else fails try a nice sweet Coleslaw to make Slaw Dogs or just have on the side. 'Round these parts Slaw Dogs are all the rage

I would bring potato chips and/or pickles. Perhaps a jar or two of homemade hot sauce for those that like their chili a lot warmer.

A nice big pan of mac and cheese would go well with that
