Preparation 45 min.
Baking 7 min. Cookie Ingredients: 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar 3/4 cup Butter, softened 1 egg 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon freshly grated orange peel 2 teaspoons lemon extract Sugar Ingredients: 1/4 cup sugar 4 drops yellow food color 2 drops red food color Instructions: Combine all cookie ingredients in large bowl. Beat at low speed, scraping bowl often, until well mixed. Divide dough in half. Shape each half into 6x1 1/2-inch log. Wrap in plastic food wrap. Refrigerate until firm (at least 2 hours). Meanwhile, combine sugar and yellow food color in jar with tight-fitting lid. Cover; shake until well mixed (1 to 2 minutes). Remove 2 tablespoons sugar; add red food color to remaining sugar. Cover; shake until well mixed. Heat oven to 375°F. Cut logs in half lengthwise with sharp knife. Roll 2 halves in yellow sugar and 2 halves in orange sugar. Cut into 1/4-inch slices. Place 1 inch apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 7 to 10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Yield: 4 dozen cookies |
