I hate the electric ones too. My mom's hangs under a cabinet and we've learned that I'm not allowed to use it. LOL I always end up dropping the can on the counter below... making a huge mess... and then treking off to the store for a new can of whatever I just wasted.

I use a hand held Pampered Chef one...I love it because it makes a smooth edge and that way you dont get cut!

I hate electric can openers; I find them to be a waste of time and counter space as well. I have always prefered hand-held ones.

I like electric canopeners..there is a new one they advertise on the tv.. that you just put onto the can and it moves itself..have you heard of this one?

just a plain old handheld for me. The electric ones are just a waste to me..they don't fit in a drawer and take up precious cabinet space.

I did finally break down and get one with a comfy handle instead of the cheap-o all metal one.

Electric can openers and electric knives are two things I'd just feel plain silly using '~__^

I have a Pampered Chef hand held can opener, and I agree with the above post. It is easy to use, and the edges aren't sharp and jagged like regular can openers. It is one of my favorite Pampered Chef items.

I use the good old Swing-A-Way standard can opener with the plastic (maybe vinal) handles. When I bought it, there was a label that said it was the can opener used on Skylab. So if it's rated for space flight and meets NASA specifications, it's probably ok for me to use opening my canned mushrooms

BTW: The Swing-a-way really does a good job opening cans.

My dad gave me a hand can opener when I moved out and it was the best can opener I have ever had. In fact I still have that can opener 20 years later. It just glides along the edge of the can with little effort in turning the the crank. I think electric can openers are great for people with arthritis in their hands.

THe normal can openers still do the trick. But i must say, jagged edges are scary.
