    Default Major Toaster Oven problems!

Well I got my Toaster Oven for Christmas and now I'm about to chunk it. I thought a toaster oven would be just like an oven, only smaller. I found my 8 inch skillet would fit in fine so I mixed up a small skillet of cornbread. This should bake about 20-25 minutes depending on oven. After only 4 minutes I peeked and it was totally burned on the top. It has 2 elements on the top and 2 elements on the bottom. All are on when in bake mode, just the top is on on toast mode and there is no mode where the bottom is on and the top is off. After calling Black & Decker they finally admitted that their toaster oven is really a toaster-toaster and would never really work as an oven. Why do they call these things toaster ovens?

I would tell them that you were falsely led into purchasing an item that you have no use for - put up a big stink with their customer service. And then tell them that it is false advertising and you are going to pursue this further. Hopefully they will replace it with a toaster oven or they will refund your money. Tell them you have no use for it - period.

Make sure you read the box - look for the styles that specifically say they bake, broil, toast, etc. I had a great one by General Electric - it did everything, and it was a big one - I loved it - but after so many years it bit the dust. So I'm looking for another one like it. And you could bake in it with no problems.

Black & Decker Model TR04075B. Convection Counter Top Oven. Easy to use cooking functions - Bake - Broil - Toast - Keep warm. Is that enough false information to put on the outside of the box?

    good grief!

I would put up such a stink I'd have a kitchen full of B & D products - but to be perfectly honest with you - B & D should stick to tools - I haven't found one appliance by them that I like - unfortunately - stupid me - having a totally blond moment - bought a 4-slice B & D toaster a few years back - no one is sorrier than I am - it cannot toast! believe it or not - it only BURNS one side of two of the slices when you are making 4 slices - even on the lowest setting - it's heading to the trash real soon too

I'd fight them! try another brand - at least that is my opinion........

I have a small 4 cup Black & Decker Coffee maker that I love. We went to it after my hubby went to drinking hot tea instead of coffee, and our wonderful Bunn Coffee Maker just seemed way too big for just me! I love my cute little B&D Coffee Maker.

JP as far as Toaster Ovens I have had an aversion to them for years. At some point in my younger years I bought one, it sat on my counter top taking up space, was an eye sore, and grease catcher that needed constant wiping, and I finally gave it away. I never hardly ever used it. I found it to be very limited for any use at all that it could have performed. There are many that find them useful, just not me!

I just returned it and got my money back. Looked at the GE which is larger (will actually hold a 9x9 pan) and wrote down the numbers on it. I just got off the phone with GE and guess what . . there is no such thing as a Toaster Oven. They are all toaster-toasters or toaster-broilers. In toaster mode the bottom 2 elements are off and the top elements are on, the same as the broiler mode. In oven mode both top elements are on and both bottom elements are on meaning it's trying to bake but the broiler elements will burn everything black before it can bake anything. There is no mode that bakes, meaning bottom elements on and top elements off like a real oven. Biggest rip-off I've ever seen.

I have a toaster, convection/ rotisseri that works really well. I love using it as an oven for baking items durring the summer heat months.
No toaster oven or any oven should have the top coil come on in baking mode. That's broiler mode too, lol.
Glad you were able to get your money back.

I'm glad to hear that you did get your money back too. But, just joining in, I'm wondering if you are looking at any toaster ovens. I read reviews from people telling of various brands that they are happy with. Have you checked on that?
