Have you never heard of sterling silver?? That expensive cutlery that has to be polished???
I remember during high school some of the girls would get one piece of silverware for each holiday as a gift - starting their hope chests - and they would get one piece of fine china. It saved the burden for when they got married. I don't think they do that anymore! |

Does anyone buy silver silverware? I have this old silver serving dish, and it's seems as soon as you clean it, it starts getting dirty again. Guess if you used it daily, it wouldn't be that big a deal or maybe it would.
It's just funny how it's called silverware and has been a long time since anyone brought out the good silver. So, Mama, did you end up with a complete set of real silverware? |

I guess I was having so much fun on Saturday nights not to worry about whether I had some silver silverware to polish. My husband married me even though I had no endowment.
It just seems like a waste of time and money since the only time it is used is for special occasions and then it just adds another thing you have to do to get ready - polish the silver. |

I don't have real honest to goodness silverware, but I do have silver plated flatware. My parents gave it to me as a gift several years ago.
It is nice to have for special occasions, but I don't know that I would go out and buy real silver. I didn't even register for it at my wedding. It's just so expensive. Now I do like nice china and crystal, but i think you get more use out of that than silver. |

I have actual silver silverware, don't ever use it though. Its locked up in a case; well i guess it's not really mine, it is my husbands. His grandparents gave it to him a long long time ago.
My mother in law also has real silver silverware. |
