    Default Stuffing And Dressing

I may have asked this question before. What's the difference between stuffing and dressing?
Growing up, stuffing in our household came from inside the bird. Dressing was made with stock, the noemal stuffing ingredients, a few eggs were added so that the dressing, after being baked, could be cut into nice shaped portions like you would a cake or brownies..

Although I'm sure it's not right, we always used the two terms interchangeably.

    My definition -

    stuffing goes in the bird

dressing is baked in a casserole (or done on the stove top)

my mother started making stove top almost 70 years ago - she should have put it on the market - we'd be rich today - and our is so much better tasting than the boxed stuff!

I'm not much of a fan for any prepared anything but will say that as far as most products today go, Stove Top Stuffing isn't something terrible for when it comes to making a quick meal. I also like to use it for toppings on casseroles instead of the stamdard bread crumb mixture.

I have seen recipes calling for the use of the stuffing mix in meatballs and meatloaf. Who ever came up with these recipes should be shot. Kraft had the recipe in their magazine for the Best Ever Italian Meatballs. Stove Top Stuffing does not belong in a meatball.

Cathy, I was thinking of those that use turkey as a replacement for ground beef or pork. I am thinking that maybe a turkey loaf made with a stuffing mix might be rather interesting. Lol, was going to say something regarding turkey balls but am not going there.

I don't like Stove top - it's way too salty. I can whip it up on the stove in no time homemade - and you're right - no way does it belong in a meatball!
